Grief , Worry, and Fear

makes us do crazy things right?

It consumes our thoughts.

It may even prevent us from seeing the full picture, thinking about a better tomorrow, or even resting.

Pray and read

Where were they?

On the shore in Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee.

This is also the place where Jesus fed the 5000 with two fish and five loafs of bread.

Who were there?

Peter, the rock on whom the church will be built.

Thomas the twin, the sons of Zebedee (John and James).

When were they there?

at night.

The best time to go fishing.

Peter and the rest of them having some memories of the wonderful things they did with Jesus and saw Jesus do.

He is not there any more.

Sure he is alive but it is not the same.

He is alive, but not like he was before the crucifixion.

Peter goes back tot he one thing that he did that made him happy before he met Jesus.

But they caught nothing.

For me, anxiety worry grief and fear all seem worse at night.

Read it and talk about what it means to you in your night worries etc.

Jesus is not feeding 5000.

He is feeding his disciples.

John 21:14

Son of John or Jonas:exactly what he called him the first time Jesus saw him, with his brother and father fishing

Agape: to love (Christian) v. — to have a strong, not romantic, love for a person and their good as understood by God’s moral character; especially characterized by a willing forfeiture of rights or privileges in another person’s behalf.

More than these?

Give me, Jesus all that you are.

phileo: to love (care) v. — to have a great affection or care for or loyalty towards.

Tend my sheep take care of my flock.

John 21:18

It will take more than adoration and loyalty for Peter to do what is going to happen next.

Peter would have to start a major risky movement and tend thousands of sheep, fish for many men in the name of Jesus.

And then be martyred like Christ but upside down.

He was going to need full on Agape love for Christ in order to have the phileo love to give the sheep.

Now was their time.

Jesus has taught and now is sending them to do His work, to do His ministry.

We face hardships in this world.

Grief, shame, worry, fear, depression, anxiety, sadness.

But I heard a devotional this week that talked about how we can overcome our thoughts.

We just want things to be like they were before.

Or we want things to just be better.

But then we just might miss the blessings that come through the struggle, through the growth.

When we are empty, it is a good time to be filled with God.

Only God can fill us and get us through this life.
