Introduction:

We’ve all been in situations where someone says something awkward or dumb or offensive in a group and it just kinda changes the dynamic
Maybe someone is trying to get in on a conversation but their nerves and insecurity gets the best of them and they blurt something out....now everyone just pretends that they didn’t say anything
What I noticed in myself was the words I used in my own life....
Why aren’t they A+’s ....I’ll show you A pluses...

One by one they fell....

Jimmy: Angry judge....I’ll never flip out like him
Chuck: Stop calling....I’ll never abandon like him
Bill: Left mom....I’ll never quit like him
It’s difficult when you begin to define yourself by what you are not compared to others instead of who you are in Christ.

Big Idea: The Force of my Words flow from Source of my Heart

James 3:8–10 NLT
but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!
Big Idea: The Force of my Words flow from Source of my Heart

The Problem: Broken words come from Broken Hearts

2. The Solution: Consider the Source

Explain:

The original design of our speech was to release life as Jesus released life (the word….)
Genesis: God SPOKE....and it was GOOD
Genesis: God SPOKE
Proverbs 16:24 NLT
Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Ephesians 4:29 NLT
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Scripture:
Scripture:
How do we get there? — Out of the overflow of our heart the mouth speaks…
We have to consider the source. The state of our heart. Jesus talked about this...
Luke 6:45 NLT
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
