Lord provides water

Only find bitter waters
Moses cries to the Lord
Throw the tree in the waters --- fresh water
25b-26 — Test, follow me — TRUST Me (even when thirsty)
twelve springs - 70 Palms

Lord provides

Set out again (after receiving water)
Grumble against Moses and Aaron (really against God)
“We could have died in Egypt - at least it would have been with a full stomach”
God will give you bread (2x before sabbath)

Meat in the evening, bread in the morning
“Gather near” — Glory of the Lord in a Cloud
I have heard the grumbling
Quail (differing event - )
Manna = “What is it?”
Go out and gather … get what you need
may not imply laziness, but rather ability, old,etc
reminds me of the Parable of the workers - all receive, all worked

Sabbath, Manna Jar

does not fall on the sabbath - collect twice as much beforehand
— It came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28 Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions?
Put a jar of manna before the Testimony (Ark of the Testimony/Covenant)
Ate 40 years, than stopped
— The sons of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Water from the Rock

Rephidim - in the wilderness before the mountain
Great Grumbling - Moses thinks they will stone him soon
Strike the rock with your staff
— “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Battle with Amalek

Amalek - son of Esau
Joshua in charge of Army already - choose men to fight
Moses held hands up = winning // down = losing
gets help from Aaron and Hur
Prophecy: “I will wipe them out!”
END 4/8/2016

Jethro’s Advice

Happy meeting
Moses recounts all that had happened
— “Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods; indeed, it was proven when they dealt proudly against the people.”
Jethro watches as Moses judges the people from morning til night
“Get help from good men”
they judge little matters
you judge large matters
Key -
— “Now listen to me: I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You be the people’s representative before God, and you bring the disputes to God, 20 then teach them the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they are to walk and the work they are to do.
Implication of God’s approval
— “If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace.”
