Anointing was "to present someone as Divinely-authorized (appointed by God) to serve as prophet, priest or king." 1 Kings 19:16; Leviticus 8:12; Psalm 133:2; 1 Samuel 10:1, 16:13; 2 Samuel 2:4, 5:3. http://biblehub.com/greek/5548.htm B. Jesus, the Promised Christ-Anointed. a. In the Old Testament a Deliverer is promised under the title of Messiah, or Anointed, (Psalms 2:2; Daniel 9:25,26) & the nature of His anointing is described to be spiritual, that is, with the Holy Ghost. Christ was anointed as Prophet, Priest & King. b. You are anointed with the same oil of the Holy Spirit which Jesus was & the Levitical Priesthood was symbolically anointed. NEXT page - - - - - - c. Here the Word of the LORD from 2 Corinthians 1:21 - 2 Corinthians 1:21Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. NKJV 2 Corinthians 1:21Moreover, it is God who sets both us and you in firm union with the Messiah; He has anointed us, 22put His seal on us, and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee for the future. NLT 2 Corinthians 1:21But it is God Who confirms and makes us steadfast and establishes us [in joint fellowship] with you in Christ, and has consecrated and anointed us [enduing us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit] Amplified Bible d. Jesus was anointed as prophet, priest & king - The Holy Spirit says 1 Peter 2:9But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light & God has caused you to be in firm union with the Messiah. e. Jesus says we, you & I are to do the same works AND greater than He… Acts 10:38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. NKJV Exodus 28:40-41, 29:4-7 (BIBLE) Exodus 28: 40“For Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics, and you shall make sashes for them. And you shall make hats for them, for glory and beauty. 41So you shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him. You shall anoint them, consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister to Me as priests. NKJV Exodus 29:4“And Aaron and his sons you shall bring to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and you shall wash them with water. 5Then you shall take the garments, put the tunic on Aaron, and the robe of the ephod, the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the intricately woven band of the ephod. 6You shall put the turban on his head, and put the holy crown on the turban. 7And you shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him. NKJV II. Ready Yourself for the Anointing Remember the application: The Oil of Anointing changes me. A. Anoint mâshach, maw-shakh' a. To smear or paint something, to "draw the hand over anything." b. This is done as an act of Divinely appointing for Kingdom use. Jesus quoted the Prophet Isaiah: Isaiah 61:1“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” B. Consecrate a. Is two Hebrew words male' & yawd - Yawd means an open hand indicating power, meaning direction. b. To make full, accomplish, satisfy. It is of abundance & overflowing. 1 Kings 8:10-11 When the Priests came out of the Temple, the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of the Lord. When consecrated by God He fills you to overflowing with His open hand of power giving direction. It is being "moved" by the Spirit of God. c. Remember, the Upper Room in Acts 2 when the glory of the LORD blew into that place? It FILLED all who were there with the Holy Spirit, the anointing, they were consecrated, filled & overflowing! C. Sanctify a. To be set apart, to be pure, clean, hallowed. b. When sanctified according to Scripture you are destined for holy worship. Moses was told of Aaron & his sons to sprinkle blood & oil on them "and their garments will be set apart as holy. Exodus 29:21" III. Pouring the Oil A. Moses poured the oil on top of the head of Aaron & the oil ran down his - a. Eyes to see where God is directing b. Face to acknowledge the presence of God c. Mouth to speak the things of God d. Clothes to cover his entire being e. Feet to walk where God commands B. The reason we can do this is because of the resurrection of Christ. - He asks us to: * Repent * Live by Faith * Be Baptized * Be Filled with His Spirit Conclusion: PRESENT THE GOSPEL FOR SALVATION – EVERY WEEK – AND THE NEED TO COME FORWARD IN PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE OF CHRIST
