Text: Jn. 8:12.  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Introduction: Have you ever explained something to someone and they said "Oh, I see what you mean." Often times people say tha they see but their actions show that they really do not see at all. If we really understand, our actions will show it. If we say we see, but do not act accordingly, we did not really see in the first place.

Seeing the light Involves:

I. Finding the Purveyer of Light.

                A. A Light That Shines Eternally.

*"I Am" - a statement of eternal existance.

                B. A Light That Sustains Everything.

*The power that is the light that illuminates "the world."

*You can't find the light of life unless you find the source of all light. The one who brings life to all men.

II. Following the Path of Light

                A. A Path Free of Darkness.

*"shall not"  - In Greek the two particular words are used together to make an ominous assertion.

*John 11:9 -10- Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

10  But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

*Luke 11:36-  If thy whole body therefore [be] full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

                B. A path Following the Lord.

*A singular focus - no detours

III. Feeling  the  Presence of Light.

                A. The Light of Life in Fullness.

*Fullness of life only available in Jesus.

*John 1:4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

                B. The Lord of Life in Fellowship.

*1 John 1:5-7.  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Conclusion:

If we say we see the light and are walking in the light, we should have fellowship with one another and Christ, and should be cleansed from all sin, and not walking in darkness.  Those who say they see the light but continue to walk in darkness have really not seen the light.

*John 3:19 - 21-19  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
