Passage
Introduction
In this passage Jesus cleanses the temple.
When worshippers came to the temple, they had to buy animals there for sacrifice.
However, the merchants were charging exorbitant prices!
They made the temple something it was not supposed to be.
The temple today is the church
What are we making the temple today?
In order to make sure we not making God’s temple what it shouldn’t be, we need make sure we know what it is supposed to be!
1.
The church is called to be an army that...
Advances the kingdom
Resists Satan in their own lives and in the world
That prays for the world
We are not at a disadvantage in life - we are the army of God, and we have God's armour and God's weapons!
Never feel that you are at a disadvantage!
Elisha, being aware of the angelic hosts that were with him, said:
With God, you are always in the majority!
2. We are called to be a bride that keeps herself pure
It’s so important that we keep ourselves pure!
Significance of being the bride...
You are loved
You are cared for
You are wanted
“As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall you God rejoice over you.”
(Isaiah 62:5)
Did you know that God actually looks forward to when you spend time with Him?
When you pray, God looks forward to that time.
There is never a moment… when you are not on God’s mind.
About Zion, He said:
3. The church is called to be a family that loves one another
household = family
We are to love one another
When you ask how someone is, genuinely care, and if you can do something to help, do it
4.
The church is called to be a body in which each member plays a role
Together we are the body of Christ, and individually we are a part of that body.
[slide]
Biblically...
Church membership is not having your name on a roll, it is having a role!
A role is not necessarily an appointment.
Someone might say, “what is your role”.
You might say, “my role is encouraging people when they are down.
God has called me to that”.
You might say, “my role is being an intercessor for the church, God has called me to that”.
We are all different, don't look down on others whose service is differently than yours.
The teacher might think, "why aren't you as deep in the Word as me?"
The prophet might thing "why aren't you as spiritual as me?"
The evangelist might think "why aren't you on the street preaching like me?"
The encourager might think "why aren’t you as up beat as me!"
The prayer warrior might thing, “why don’t you spend as much time as me in prayer?”
But we shouldn't think that way.
We should recognise that we all have different strengths according to the grace that God has given to us.
