God unchanging

A.W. Tozer “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
there are a couple of mis-conceptions that people have of God and of Christianity
first is that God’s love for us changes
When things are going good in our lives God must love me
and when things start getting bad God must have turned away from us
or He is judging us
This is faulty thinking
it takes God and makes Him subject to our emotions and our feelings
Do you know we all Change-
that is what life is we change
as we get older we move form baby to toddler
for teen to youth adult
then eventually from Life to death
our emotions change
our friendships change
for some of us our crushes change
Change and mortality are the twin diseases that afflict mankind
one Poet named Omar making at somewhat of a joke about this once wrote, “Don’t slap that clay so roughly,” he exhorts the potter, “that may be your grandfather’s dust you make so free with”
All of us are changing
But God never changes “
“All that God is He has always been, and all that He has been and is He will ever be”
Nothing that God has ever said bout Himself will be modified-
Malachi 3:6–7 CSB
“Because I, the Lord, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed. “Since the days of your fathers, you have turned from my statutes; you have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord of Armies. Yet you ask, “How can we return?”
Mal 3:6-7
God and His word will not Change
he is immutable- unchanging, un-able to change
He is perfect
For us the the possibility for redemption lies in our ability to change
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
we are made new
The liar becomes truthful
the proud become humble
the broken become whole
the lustful become pure
1 Corinthians 6:11 CSB
And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
when we come to God it is us relying on the work that God is doing in our life
we exchange a life of sin and the death that come with it for a new life full of hope and a future
This is another mis conception:
that as christian we are perfect
but the gospel of Christ teaches us something different
we can’t do this on our own
- God hasn’t Changed this is why you are destroyed by sin
this is why you are destroyed for turning away
from doubting God
from running from God
from falling back into sin
Because of God being unchanging

What Does God not changing have to do with us?

God never changes His moods or cools off in His affections or loses enthusiasm
His attitude toward sin is the same now as it was when He drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden when they fell,
And His attitude toward the sinner is the same as when He stretched out His hands and Cried
Matthew 11:28 CSB
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
God’s word shows us What He feels for us
when we were lost God says
Luke 19:10 CSB
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”
When we feel like we are unlovable or that no one loves us
Romans 5:8 CSB
But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Or when we feel filthy and unclean because of the choses that we have made
1 John 1:9 CSB
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God doesn’t Change
His promises never change
His word never Changes
His love Never changes
Hebrews 13:8 CSB
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
and because of that we have
we can hold onto the promise that
Joshua 1:9 CSB
Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
God is always with us
Or the promise that God hears our cries
Psalm 34:18 CSB
The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.
And that God is still working in your life
Philippians 1:6 CSB
I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Because we can change God is changing us
He is shaping us
Sometimes the situations we go through are hard but God still turns them around for His glory
Joseph in the Old Testament
Betrayed by His brothers
sold into slavery by them
falsely accused and ends up in a prison cell
Yet at the end of His story He says
Genesis 50:20 CSB
You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people.
Can we in our times of Trouble say “God I know you are unchangeable, your love and your feels for me, Help me to change into what you have for me.”
Philippians 3:12–14 CSB
Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.
