Before we read the Easter Gospel reading from Mark, chapter 16, let’s do a quick review.
The first is about Palm Sunday…what does Jesus do on Palm Sunday?
Next Picture, what do you see? Crown of thorns and hammer, nails and wood. What happens to Jesus on Good Friday of that same week?
The next Picture is what happens on Friday from noon to 3pm when Jesus is on the cross the earth gets very dark.
Then, Jesus dies after his death his close friends take Jesus down from the cross.
pict 4 - lying in the tomb. They bury Jesus
Mark 16:1–8 ESV
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Easter is the greatest Day of all…
Jesus proves He is stronger than death…and for us who believe…we will live with the Risen Jesus after we die.
rom 6:
Romans 6:4–5 ESV
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Easter proves Jesus is the Son of God.
Romans 1:4 ESV
and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
The Risen Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus is God. Jesus is the real deal. He is the ONE he claimed to be. And that means for us,
Easter changes everything for us! Christ's resurrection is NOT just something...IT is everything!
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Christ’s resurrection has changed my future
John 3:36 ESV
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
And there’s ONLY ONE who EVER lived who promises life EVERLASTING in His name…His name is Jesus. I’m trusting Him. From now on I’m going to Him asking HIM to give me His Spirit to fill my mind, to guard my words, and guide my feet to walk His ways, instead of my own. Because in all of recorded history so far…JESUS is the only ONE who came back to life, NEVER to die again, and HE is the ONLY ONE who as promised me everlasting life in His name.
Christ is Risen. He is Risen Indeed. Alleluia!
