 2018-04-08 1 The Easter Community The Church as a resurrection people 2 Called to be a resurrected people 1 – The ultimate proof for Jesus’ Resurrection is not a rational argument but the existence of a community of resurrected people – The community’s experience of resurrection is the key to renewal – A practice experience of trust in God, death to self and love for neighbour 3 A pattern for resurrection people 1 Acts 2:42-47 – Strong worship – Miracles – Burden-bearing – Generous table fellowship – Goodwill of the people 4 It works even when it doesn’t 1 – The resurrection community isn’t distinct in that it never fails, but rather in how it responds to failures in its midst – “How is God making use of this failure to grow me ?” 5 Lessons from another resurrection community 1 The 12 Traditions of the 12 Step movement: 1. Unity without uniformity 2. Leaders are trusted servants, but do not govern; God alone governs 3. The only requirement for membership is to want recovery 4. Group autonomy 5. The primary purpose is to carry its message to addicts who suffer 2 6. Never endorse an outside entity 7. Never accept outside contributions 8. Never pay for Fellowship service 9. Minimize organization 10.Never have an opinion on outside issues 11.Grow by attraction rather than promotion 12.Stay anonymous; keep principles above personalities 1
