The life of a Christian is meant to be a shared journey.
We are not meant to be lone rangers.
Galatians
We are all vulnerable.
You think you are not?
The word you are looking for is PRIDE.
This is not about judging someone.
This is about love.
When we are involved in one another’s life we can speak the truth in love, we can assist each other in recognizing and acknowledging faults and weaknesses.
Just one more reason we need the church.
The new life into which we have been born through Christ is a shared life.
The Greek word used to describe the shared life of the people of God was key-no-nia.
Meaning which means communion, joint participation; or our English word “fellowship.”
Sharing in friendship, being partners in the gospel, sharing material possessions, having fellowship in Christ and sharing life together in the Spirit and fellowship with God.
In key-no-nia we are bound to each other, to Christ and to our God.
Our life is shared, we “carry each other’s burdens”
Self-denial is at the heart of the gospel.
But you must not devalue yourself.
You are a child of the most high God!
We will come back to verse 5.
Galatians 6:7-10
Paul lays it out for us:
If we live for God we will spend eternity with God.
If we live for ourselves, we will spend eternity with ourselves, without God.
Now before we finish let’s jump back to vs. 5.
We talked a few minutes ago about responsibility.
In this verse Paul addresses individual accountability for doing the work of the gospel.
There are some things in life only you can be responsible for.
When Melinda was pregnant.
Only she could carry that load.
There was nothing I could do to carry.
When I was in great pain after breaking my collar bone, my dad said he would do anything to take that pain for me.
One other thing we can not share is death.
There will come a time for each of us.
Thomas Hobbes, an agnostic all of his life, a very brilliant man, said when he came to his death, “I am taking a fearful leap into the dark!”
And then he cried out, “Oh, God, it is lonely!”
There will be one final event that we must carry our own load.
The Judgment or Bema seat
First Corinthians 3:10–15 teaches that the second coming of Christ will usher in a distinctive judgment for believers.
The purpose of this judgment seat of Christ is not to determine the salvation or damnation of anyone.
That matter will have been settled before this great event occurs.
On this occasion the Lord of the church will review what every Christian has done with the gift of salvation from the moment of salvation to the end of life.
