Introduction
There is one fear that all of have experienced or will experience and that is the fear of death.
There are 1000’s of ways to die.
But there are really just four ways you can die.
Oxygen starvation.
High temperature.
Chemical Toxins.
Physical Damage.
If you can’t breath, you die.
If you get too hot, you die.
If you get poisoned, you die.
If you are body breaks, you die.
We are going to see that the disciples were afraid of dying.
Three words I want you to listen for: fear, peace, and blessed.
John 20:19-31

John 20:19
The disciples feared the Jews.
This fear is defined like this in the Louw Nida Greek-English Lexicon:
Fear: a state of severe distress, aroused by intense concern for impending pain, danger, evil, etc., or possibly by the illusion of such circumstances—‘fear.’

The Jews had just arrested Jesus in the middle of the night with a bunch of soldiers.
Jesus was then beaten, flogged, hung on a cross, and stabbed in his side.
If this could happen to their leader - then what could happen to them?
They were still in Jerusalem.
So they were in fear - extreme fear for their life.
So they locked their doors.
But doors don’t matter to the Risen Jesus - Jesus stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
Peace, tranquility, Hakuna Matata - no worries, I am here
John 20:20-23
“As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”
This is a big commission for the disciple - Jesus was passing the baton to the disciples for the next stage of his ministry.
So what was Jesus’ ministry?
Why was He sent by God to earth?
Jesus’ Mission
Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.
Jesus came to preach.
Jesus came to heal the sick.
Jesus came to make disciples.
We are called to do these things also
We are to seek and save the lost, preach, heal, and make disciples.
What does that look like?
When was the last time that you were intentional about seeking out someone that was lost?
Someone that will not be with us in heaven if they don’t follow Jesus?
If 9/10 people are lost in Colorado, when was the last time you were intentional about finding someone to share your faith with.
We are called to preach.
What kind of disciples are you making?
When was the last time you shared your faith?
Is your Christian walk something that you would want replicated?
When was the last time you shared the Romans Road?
Or the Three Circles?
Or the Four Spiritual Laws?
Would you want to teach someone how to pray, read their Bible, spend time with God?
Jesus came to heal the sick.
9/10 people in Colorado are sick.
They have a heart made of stone.
They need a heart transplant.
Will you heal the sick?
As disciples, we are called to make disciples.
What kind of disciples are you making?
Is your Christian walk something that you would want replicated?
Would you want to teach someone how to pray, read their Bible, spend time with God?
John 20:24-25
We love our signs!
Jesus show us your scars.
Prove that you are real.
How many of us have prayed for signs?
How many of us prayed for God to makes Himself real to you?
Thomas was the same way
He missed Jesus’ first appearance to the disciples - he wasn’t there.
He wasn’t going to take their word for it.
Thomas wanted to see for himself
John 20:
Again - the door is locked, and Jesus just appears in the room saying “Peace be with you.”
Recognize the greeting our Catholic brothers and sisters use? “Peace be with you, and also with you.”

So after Jesus says, “Peace be with you” to the disciples - He jumps right in. - Thomas, “put your finger here and look at my hands.
Put your hand in my side.”
It’s as if Jesus heard what Thomas had been saying!
It’s as if God actually listens to what we say!
We have a God that hears us.
Amen?!?
Look at the blessing that Jesus gives to us.
A blessing that extends all the way to us today.
- “Because you have seen me, you have believed.
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”
We are blessed.
You are blessed.
I am blessed.
Sounds like Oprah.
You get a blessing, I get a blessing, we get a blessing.
We are blessed because we believe and have never seen Jesus.
Be blessed today.
John 20:30-31
John
John wrote his gospel for one reason - that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
This is why we have spent all this time in the Gospel of John.
My intent was to show you how go through the Gospel of John - chapter by chapter, verse by verse when you are walking along side someone.
When you are discipling someone.
If you meet someone and you want to disciple them - use the Gospel of John.
