Introduction

Works of art routinely sell for 40, 50 even 60 million dollars at auction.

One piece of artwork allegedly painted by Leonardo daVinci sold for $450 million last year.

A case of wine sold for 1.7 million.

A dress worn by Marilyn Monroe sold for 4 million.

Diamonds

It is said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

Diamonds are a must in engagement rings—No other stone, not moissanite, not CZ, or any other stone will do.

People pay large sums of money to stay in expensive hotels, to fly first class, to buy incredibly expensive cars, clothes, jewelry.

Some people look at those who spend money that way and say that the’re crazy, or stupid.

Nothing, they say, could be worth that much.

I might believe that $1700 for a glass of wine is insane (I do), or that Marilyn Monroe’s dress is a waste of money at $4 million (I do).

But the reality of life is different.

The value of something is based on what someone is willing to pay for it.

So if someone wants to spend 142,000 for a bottle of wine, or 450 million for a painting, or 30 million for a car, then that’s what that particular item is worth.

It’s the same with the value that God has placed on us.

says that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son; that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

This symbolizes the value that God has placed on our souls, that he would make such a sacrifice simply to redeem us.

Jacob loved Rachel so much that he worked an extra 7 years for his crooked uncle, Laban, just so he could have her, when he could have walked away in disappointment and disgust when he found out that Laban had broken their agreement and tricked him.
