Ask Ushers to hand out candy
you can eat during the service but eat them as you follow along
What is so special about easter? What is the purpose?
why is it important?
how do we articulate that to a friend?
Many of us have difficulty explaining the Gospel to someone, we know it in our hearts, but to explain it with words completely can be a challenge for us.
Today we are going to re-learn the gospel through candy

The Jelly Bean Gospel

Yellow and Green

Genesis 1:
Genesis 1:1 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
yellow - heavens
sun moon stars galaxies
Green - earth, plants, animals, waters
Earth —
Hummingbird - can flap wings up to 200 times per second
Short Tailed Shearwater — migrates from alaska to australia every year
8000 miles
alone, its parents never teach it, it just knows
Heavens —
Sun is 400X larger than the moon, yet sits perfectly in our sky looking the same size because it was placed 400X farther away.
Sun is 100X Diameter of the earth
could hold over 1 million earths inside it
sits 93 million miles away
@ 65 mph = 163 years of driving
We serve an incredible, powerful, awesome, creative GOD!

Genesis 1:26 ESV
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Then God made man
But he made man special right...
In His image
Have dominion over the rest of creation
To be in relationship with him
God would come down and spend time with them in the Garden
He provided for them everything they need
God and Man were intended to be in relationship with one another

Black

Genesis 2:16–17 ESV
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
But, we know that Adam and Eve did eat of it
their sin, and our sin, brings death into the world.
But not just physical death, spiritual death
What does it mean to be spiritually dead?????
to be separated from God.
Just as man was created to be in relationship with God, sin separated us from God, taking away our purpose

Orange

Romans 6:23 ESV
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH
Death isn’t just separation from God now, but eternal separation from God
Hell
Many today want to say that Hell is figurative and not a real place for eternity
The bible doesn’t back up that idea
Matthew 13:40–42 ESV
Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:
Matthew 25 ESV
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Just to name a few
The problem with rejecting the idea of hell, is that the bible talks about it too much, and if some parts of the bible aren’t true, then none of it is worth trusting. That means, if hell is real, then neither is Jesus, the resurrection, salvation.
we can’t pick and choose what we believer out of the bible

The bible says this death is what we are deserving of, because of our sin.

Red

but the story doesn’t end there...
God did not want us to remain separated from him
God desires relationship with us
In order to deal with this sin God set up a required sacrifice
we see this throughout the old testament
God required Blood to cover sin
the blood of animals was a temporary fix, and never really solved the problem
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
God sent his Son,
sent himself
1 Cor 20
1 Corinthians 15:20–22 ESV
But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

White

Being washed clean of our sin
the story doesn’t end with Jesus dying
the ressurrection
Matthew 28:5–7 ESV
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”
He is risen
Jesus didn’t just cover sin, HE CONQUERED SIN AND DEATH
Romans 6:23 ESV
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD
2 Peter 3:9 ESV
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
Repentance in response to the greatness of what God has done

Purple

purple is a royal color
Because when we repent, truly repent, we give up the right to be in control anymore.
We submit out lives to Jesus. We live by his teaching and by his leading.
He becomes King of our lives.
If you are here this morning and perhaps you have never heard this before…or maybe you have heard this before, but as you look at your life, you know that Jesus has not been the King of your life. You can feel the holy spirit speaking to you quietly on the inside, telling you that you are still separated from God. Now is the time of salvation. Now is the time to repent. As we sing this song, i want to encourage you to pray to God, seek his forgiveness.
