Introduction
There are many religions in the world.
Not all religions are the same - nor do they all preach the same message.
Christianity is unique in the sense that it makes an unbelievable claim unlike many of the other religions.
It is unique in that it affirms that God became man.
He actually took upon himself human flesh.
It is unique in that it affirms that after Jesus was arrested by the Roman leaders he was unjustly tried, tortured, and finally crucified upon a cross.
It is unique in that it affirms that Jesus, after being in the tomb three days and three nights, rose from the dead to live forevermore.
The resurrection is the central claim of the Christian faith.
You take away the reality of the resurrection, you disprove the resurrection, and christianity will quickly disappear.
1 Corinthians 15:7
Paul understood this reality.
He knew that if Jesus did not rise from the dead then surely we are amongst the most pitiful people among the face of the earth.
If Jesus did not rise from the dead we should quit preaching, we should quite following Jesus, we should drink, eat and be merry because we will soon die!
If Jesus did not rise from the dead then we are still in our sins and have no hope in this life or the next.
However, because Jesus did rise from the dead:
We know we will also be resurrected
We know Jesus will triumph over all his enemies
I.
We know we will also be resurrected
I. Nosotros también seremos resucitados
Last week we spoke about the reality of death.
We will all day.
Many who sit here today may not be with us next Resurrection Sunday (2019).
It is a reality.
We are all in the process of dyeing.
We must all die because we have sinned.
However, Paul tells us that Jesus rose from the dead as a prototype, as an example, as a preview of our own resurrection.
For this reason the Apostle’s Creed that many memorized as young children says: “I believe in the resurrection of the dead”.
Every single human being will rise from the dead.
Doesn’t matter how evil or how moral they were in this life.
We will all rise from the dead.
Many will rise to everlasting punishment, but many will rise to everlasting life.
Death is not the final chapter in our lives.
There is life after death, and Jesus has demonstrated it through his resurrection.
How can we be sure that we will enjoy everlasting life when we are resurrected?
- Put your trust in Jesus, confess your sins, and determine to follow him from this day forward.
II.
We know Jesus will triumph over all his enemies
II.
Nosotros sabemos que Jesús triunfará sobre sus enemigos
1 Corinthians 15:
Because Jesus rose from the dead we know he will ultimately triumph over all his enemies.
There are many who mock God, ignore God, treat God as a hobby or occasional interest.
There are others who treat God as a genie or as a heavenly Santa Clause, asking things from him when it is convenient.
However, let us understand that because he rose from the dead, he has proven himself to be the giver and author of life.
He said he would die and rise again after three days.
If he fulfilled this word, surely he can be trusted.
He said he will come again and judge the living and the dead - surely we must believe his word.
There will come a day when all humanity will give an account of their lives before the throne of the living and resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.
