Easter Sermon
“The Devoted Witness”
Why is the resurrection so important?
1 Cor 15:16
There were many witnesses
1 Cor 15:3-6
Everything in the Christian Faith hinges on the resurrection
Resurrection
Eternal life , Heaven, Rebirth, New bodies, Freedom from sin, Riches in Heaven, Perfect Relationships,
Healing, Miracles, Deliverance from demons, Spiritual gifts, Fruit of the Spirit, Individual calling, Purpose,
All are made possible through the resurrection.
We should desire to witness all these things.
How do we witness all this?
Lets learn from the First Witness
Mary not considered a trustworthy witness at the time in court.
Yet Jesus considers her a trustworthy witness.
Maybe even the most trustworthy witness.
Why?
I believe there is something that allows some to witness and experience more than others.
Faith and Relationship.
Faith in and Relationship with Jesus Christ
John 11:
Faith
Jesus often tells people “your faith has made you well”
Lack of faith limited a peoples witness
Matt 13:
Relationship
Relationship plus faith equals Devotion
Devotion
Mary the Magdalane was the first to see Jesus risen from the dead
Mary the Magdalane was the first to see Jesus risen from the dead
Why was she considered a trustworthy witness?
Well Jesus has always looked for faith in individuals
She had faith but more than that
She was close in relationship
Lets take a brief overview of her Faith in and Relationship to Jesus.
Or you could say Devotion to Jesus.
First we are told that she was freed from seven demons.
Stayed and learned from Jesus unlike her sister Martha
Saw her brother Lazarus raised from the dead by Jesus.
She supported Jesus ministry financially
She anointed Jesus feet with perfume ,
She witnessed Jesus’ death on the cross (, ;
Accompanied His body to the tomb (,
First to go to the tomb Sunday morning and found it empty.
(, )
On Sunday morning she was the first to get to Jesus’ tomb, and, seeing that it was empty, went and informed the disciples that someone had taken away Jesus’ body
First to see the risen Jesus.
Commissioned by Jesus to tell others
but Mary stayed behind and was the first to see the risen Lord (verse 15).
He commissioned her to tell the disciples He had been resurrected (verse 17).
In obedience, she and the other women went to the disciples and announced that the Lord had risen (; ; ).
Your Faith in Jesus and Relationship to Jesus determine what you get to witness and experience.
Do you have Faith in Jesus?
Are you close in Relationship to Jesus?
Are you Devoted to Jesus?
