Introduction
With most of our sermons the significance arrises as the text is studied and applied to our lives.
The morning goes from normal to special as the Holy Spirit illuminates the text to each of us individually.
But when we come to these Christian holidays — Easter, Christmas — the opposite is the case.
Significance is already felt.
The day is already special.
We enter into the service with a sense of greater importance.
It is as if our hearts have already been prepared by the sacredness of the day.
And we are an empty container waiting to re-encounter the text.
I feel compelled to not take for granted the actual account.
So I want to spend at least half our time simply reading the resurrection account from three of the Gospels.
Observations
Jesus said this would happen and his words came to pass.
Jesus is trustworthy.
21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.d
22 And he said, “The Son of Mane must suffer many thingsf and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,g and he must be killedh and on the third dayi be raised to life.”j
Death is the most powerful enemy.
Jesus overcame that enemy.
Jesus is awesome.
If Jesus isn’t dead then he is alive.
And he now reigns from heaven.
Communion
Why?
If all of this account is true then it is reasonable to believe the Bible’s explanation of this account.
Did Jesus Tell his disciples why he was going to die on the cross and rise on the third day?
We know that he warned them that it was going to happen.
But did Jesus explain the cross?
The answer is yes.
And it happened at the last supper as Jesus instituted communion.
