Friday night, the night his suffering would truly begin.
Friday night, the night He would begin to pay for our sins.
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed.

Jesus knew what was about to take place and he was preparing for the task at hand.
Jesus had just told the disciples what was about to happen, they didn’t understand, but he told them and now he’s getting himself prepared.
His preparation begins with prayer, He begins by talking to His Father.
And He begins His prayer, by praying for himself.
Sometimes you have to begin with you.
When you’re on a plane and their giving you the safety briefing, they tell you, if we lose cabin pressure, masks will drop from the ceiling, secure your mask first, then help others around you with their masks.
You secure yours first instead of others, even if it’s your child, because if you go down, you’ll both be lost.
The 17th chapter of John is Jesus’ prayer to His Father.
He continues to be the example for us to follow.
nd so Jesus begins this prayer, praying for himself.
When you have a task you have to complete.
Pray.
When you have a decision to make about a job.
Pray.
When you’re deciding on a mate.
Pray.
When you’re children are messing up in school.
Pray.
When your children are doing well.
Pray
When you’re looking for a home.
Pray
When you’re getting in your car to go anywhere.
Pray
When you wake up in the morning.
Pray.
When you go to bed at night.
Pray.
As you go throughout your day.
Pray.
Men ought always to pray and not to faint
When the going gets tough - the tough pray
Pray that God will help you through the task, that He will give you the strength to go through and not just to barely slide through, but to go through strong, without any shadow of turning, with no doubt that when you get to the other side you will be better than you were when you went in.
Because here’s what we can be assured of, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Friday night, this chapter of Jesus’ life tells us about the magnitude of what He was about to do for us.
And so He begins this prayer, praying for himself.

So he can give glory back to you.
We were created to make His praise glorious.
Jesus’ prayer was not a selfish prayer, it would seem like it on the surface but when you look at what he asked God to do was glorify him - lift him up - so that He (Jesus) could give glory back to God.
Jesus had to die for the remission of our sins, Jesus had to be lifted up to draw us back to Him and ultimately to reconnect us to the Father.
The connection was severed when they sinned in the garden.
Before the sin God used to walk in the garden with Adam and Eve, but after the fall, there was a separation that only Jesus could reconcile.
His prayer continues… He reminds His Father what He’s done.
God didn’t forget but we pray His words and put Him in remembrance of what He said.
Jesus says, “For you have given him authority over everyone.

God gave his Son authority over all people, so he could give us, among other things, eternal life, so we could know the only true God and Jesus Christ.
Jesus came so we could have a picture, if you will, of God.
For you have given him authority over everyone.

We could not see God, but he sent a proxy to stand in His place and now that’s what we are to be and do.
Stand in the gap for those who don’t know Jesus in the pardoning of their sins.
We are to show a dying world the love of Christ through the way we walk, talk and live.
When people look at you, when they look at your life, and yes others are watching you, when they look at you, what and who do they see?
Do they see the love of Christ, do they see Jesus displayed in you?
The prayer continues, “I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
Finishing is important.
When you begin a journey, if you have prayed and you know that you know that you know you’re on the right path, that you’re on the right mission.
