When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him.
Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb at sunrise.
They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?”
Looking up, they noticed that the stone—which was very large—had been rolled away.
When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; they were alarmed.
“Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they put him.
But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you.’ ”
They went out and ran from the tomb, because trembling and astonishment overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone, since they were afraid. [Some of the earliest conclude with .]

Illus: From the begining of time all men have sinned.
Sin is doing anything wrong. We all should know the difference between right and wrong. When someone kills another person, we can clearly say, that is wrong. When a man cheats on his wife we should know that adultery is wrong.
There are consequences to our sins. When you kill another person, you bring death to another family, and they will want justice for your evil act. Justice is that you get what you deserve for what you do.
From this we must see God’s standards, To God, hating another person in your heart is the same as murder. Looking lustfully at another person is the same as adultry.
God demands justice for our sin. We as humans cannot handle the undiluted justice of God.
This is where the cross is so important. God’s justice is clearly seen. For every man who murdered, Jesus embraced the justice of God. For every person who commited adultery, Jesus willingly accepted the justice of God. For every thief, every man caught in porn, every woman who gossiped, every lie, every sin, Jesus willingly took the full justice of God for you.

B. What happened after Jesus was crucified?

Illus: This past week my daughter asked me, “Papi, once Jesus died, where did he go?”
It is a great question. Some have said, that Jesus went to hell. I don’t believe that.
I believe when Jesus died, the punishment for all the sins of humanity was paid for. Once Jesus died, God’s wrath was satisfied.
Where did Jesus Go? we get a clue in the end of Luke’s gospel.

Illus: Jesus’ description of where he went after death gives us a picture of where we go when we after death. He went to be with God in heaven. That is if we trust Christ by faith.

Illus: When Jesus was raised from the dead he did not come back with a broken body. Jesus came back with a perfect body which did not carry frailties of that we know.
It would never feel taint of cancer. It would not hurt, nor would it ever feel sorrow. The body Jesus came back with was as God intended it to be before death and sin came into this world.
The body Jesus came back in gives us a picture of the bodies we will have when Jesus comes back.
Today, do you know the pain of living in this broken world?
Perhaps it is physical pain. We know one day for those who trust Jesus that physical pain will be gone.
Perhaps it is emotional pain. We know one day for those who trust Jesus that emotionial pain will be gone.
Perhaps it is the pain of having lost a family member or friend that we love. we know that for those who trust Jesus all things will be made new.
One day we will be raised as Jesus was raised in the perfection that God intends for us.

Illus: Everything hinges on faith.
Faith has 2 parts to it. It is the whole life commitment to God as both Saviour and Lord.
Faith is coming to God to find forgiveness from your sins. It is believing that when Jesus died on the cross, everyone of those sins was paid for by Jesus.
Faith is coming to God and submitting to him as the boss of your life. It is believing (and living) in a way that you no longer live for yourself, but you now exist to live for God.

2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously lived according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, 5 made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! 6 He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—9 not from works, so that no one can boast.

Today you face the same choice as these early witnesses. Will you allow fear to keep you from following Jesus, or will you step out in faith?

Illus: You will make a choice today. Today, you have heard that Jesus died for your sins. Today you have heard that he rose from the dead. You have also heard that your responsibility to make God both your Lord and your saviour.
You will either make the choice to trust Jesus today, or not to. Trusting Jesus means your are forgiven. Trusting JEsus means you will experience the abundant both now and in eternity with Jesus Christ.
There are consequences for not trusting Jesus. If you do not trust Jesus, you will have to face the justice for every thought and action of your life. Without trusting Jesus you will go to hell and face God’s eternal punishment.
The choice is yours.

If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.
