Paul must have learnt this from the LORD Jesus Christ because these were his exactly thoughts in .
KJV 1900And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
A Brief exposition of
The Greeks, as a people or nation do not know and does not worship YWHY.Yet, GOD has called some to faith and these have come to Jerusalem to worship YWHY.And when they were in Jerusalem, they heard and saw Jesus at the triumphant entry into Jerusalem. What they saw prompted them to requested to see him face to face.Through Philip and then through Andrew, they were brought in the presence of the lamb of GOD, who at this time knew His time has come for Him to fulfill his purpose of His coming into this world and that was to glorify the Father. We have no record if these Greeks asked a question BUT the LORD knew exactly what they needed to hear and He told them. The Greeks believer needed to know the Christ is here, standing before them and He will be glorified shortly, .
KJV 1900And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
Our LORD told them about His imminent death on the cross and that they too, if they want to follow Him, are to lose their lives for Him.
KJV 1900Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
The grain of wheat, to grow into a fruitful stalk of grain to feed others must die.Our LORD is saying that it is the same for Christians if they want to be fruitful in Christ.Christ + nothing is about you and my dying to this world. The believing Greeks was taught by our LORD to hate this life in this world. The world hate was meant to convey the intense aversion or strong hostility towards our lives in this world. This world, in Christ’s time was against Him.He knew they were plotting to kill Him because he came from GOD and He exposed their hypocrisy.
Jesus knew what is true living and how man should worship the one and only true living GOD.Man have their own ideas and Jesus calls them the world to differential between them and the true life in GOD.Jesus told them, hate such things.
Jesus never taught us to hate our lives. He taught us to hate the world who reject Him and when they do that, they reject the Father who sent Him.
