John 20:19-31
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name

Introduction
Golgotha is in our rear view mirror this morning. When Jesus cried “It is finished”, everything that God had sent His Son to this earth to do, He accomplished it. One of those tasks was to complete the plan for the salvation of man.
The Jewish leaders had its part in the salvation of man. They connived with Judas to put an end to Jesus message. Then they enraged a crowd asking for Barabbas instead of Jesus. Then they cried out to Pilate, “crucify him.”
The crowd had its part in the salvation of man. When Pilate proclaimed, “I am innocent of this man's blood; see to it yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” (Matthew 27:24-25) “
Rome had its part in the salvation of man. Rome declared an innocent man guilty, they beat Jesus and gave the verdict of death on the cross.
The cross had its part in the salvation of man. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross appeased and satisfied God’s wrath upon man because of sin.
The tomb had its part in the salvation of man as the resting place of Jesus fulfilled the prophecy Isaiah 53:9, “And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.”
The Roman guard had its part in the salvation of man as they ensured that Jesus didn’t leave that tomb by any other means than His resurrection.
The empty tomb had its part in the salvation of man as the physical, resurrection of Jesus Christ is the confirmation that Jesus is God. Jesus is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)

What We Don’t Hear

Today we don’t hear the hammer ringing off the nails as they were pounded into Jesus’ hands and feet.
We don’t hear the sound of the jeering crowd.
We don’t hear the storm and the reverberation of the earthquake.
We don’t hear the sounds of muffled voices as they remove the body of Jesus and transport him to the tomb of
We don’t hear the sound of the great stone being rolled into place in the borrowed tomb where Jesus dead body was lain.

What We Do Hear on the First Day of the Week

We hear the intake of breath as the Savior of the World is resurrected.
We hear the rustling of the death clothes falling from Christs body as His glorified body rises to leave the tomb.
We hear the great stone being rolled away by the angels, sent from God and reveals the emptiness of the place reserved for the dead.
We hear the fearful voices of the Roman guard as they hear the sound of the stone being rolled back and their prisoner gone.
We hear the sounds of women’s feet as they rise from their beds and begin collecting the spices and ointments in order to finish the embalming process on the Messiah.
We hear the hushed voices of Mary Magdalene, the other Mary, Salome, Joanna and the other women as they make small talk on their way to the garden tomb.
We hear the gasps as the women see that the tomb is empty, and the body of Jesus is not there.
We hear the angels voice as he says;
“Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” (Matthew 28:5-7)
We hear the conversation of Jesus and Mary Magdalene
John 20:15-19 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord.”
We hear the beating footsteps of Peter and John running to the tomb to see this miracle.
We hear the sound of the doors being locked where the disciples were hiding.

Let Us Meet the Resurrected Christ

19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
Finally, the disciples hear the voice that they knew so well. The voice that taught multitudes. The voice that clamed raging storms. The voice that called demons out of men. The voice that commanded Lazarus to be raised from the dead. The voice that said, “It is Finished.”
The first words the resurrected Son of Man proclaims is “Peace be with you.” A simple greeting to those men whom He loved so much.
Listen with me as Jesus shows them his hands and feet where the nails were pounded through his flesh. Listen as he shows the side where the Roman guard pressed his spear.
Listen as Jesus says; ““Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

Conclusion
“If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn't rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.” ― Timothy J. Keller, The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
“Jesus's resurrection is the beginning of God's new project not to snatch people away from earth to heaven but to colonize earth with the life of heaven.” ― N.T. Wright, Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church
"The message of Easter is that God's new world has been unveiled in Jesus Christ and that you're now invited to belong to it.” ― N.T. Wright
Outside of the cross of Jesus Christ, there is no hope in this world. That cross and resurrection are at the core of the Gospel is the only hope for humanity. Wherever you go, ask God for wisdom on how to get that Gospel in, even in the toughest situations of life.
Ravi Zacharias
Finally:
We are familiar with the statement; “Jesus has risen, He has risen indeed.” Say it with me.
However, the Resurrection is so much more. It is not merely enough to say, “Christ is Risen.” For, with Christ’s resurrection, every promise in scripture brings hope to mortal man. Every believer in Jesus Christ should consider himself immortal, according to Scripture. Let every born-again believer shout to the top of their lungs; “Christ is Risen; therefore I Shall Rise!”
