Making the Resurrection Personal

John 12:23 KJV 1900
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
background:
John 12:20–23 KJV 1900
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: 21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. 22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
john 12.20

The mention of Greeks is significant. They were the wanderers of the ancient world and the seekers of truth. These Greeks were probably God-fearers who attended Jewish synagogues and feasts. Their coming was symbolic of the coming of Gentiles to worship God through Christ (cf. 10:16).

12:21–22. Why did the Greeks approach Philip about seeing Jesus? Perhaps because Philip had a Greek name. Or he may have had some contact with Greeks from the Decapolis area. Philip went to … Andrew, and Andrew and Philip … told Jesus. Since crowds of people probably wanted to speak with Jesus, the disciples may have tried to do some screening (cf. Luke 18:15–16).

The Greeks those out the religious society ....

Jesus was approaching His final Hour and we find some key statement in His explanation to the disciple that we must all consider for ourselves:
Jesus was the God man that would cover or pay for all man kinds sin.

He was sinless

2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV 1900
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
1 Peter 2:22 KJV 1900
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
1 Peter 1:22 KJV 1900
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

He was God

John 10:30 KJV 1900
30 I and my Father are one.
John 10:33 KJV 1900
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

He Died for Mankind's Sin

Romans 5:8 KJV 1900
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
1 Peter 3:18 KJV 1900
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

The Resurrection Proved Jesus's Claim

Matthew 28:6 KJV 1900
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 KJV 1900
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
So one this day how can we make it personal?
Sir do you want to see Jesus ?
This day is really about you!
Its not a cultural religious day in which we celebrate some 2000 year old story about a man named Jesus and his coming out of the tomb alive though he was declared dead.
Now its about April 1. 2018 at 11:15 est and what are you going to say and most importantly how are you going to react.
illustration - In 1996 I was diagnosed with gout. Big toe; hurt and painful
I understand Spergeon had it
But when I got it it became personal and i had 1st hand knowledge of the disease
I knew what it felt like ‘
I knew what the symptoms were
But in 1996 Gout became personal.
I did not have a head knowledge or information I had experienced the disease.
Too many people know about the Easter story but have no personal impact on them

I Time Has Come

John 12:23 KJV 1900
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
The hour has come!
In this text Jesus is explaining that Time has come for Him to go to the cross and die for sins of man kind!
Healing, feeding, and preaching has com end and end! Now its time!
illustration - paratroopers jumping behind enemy lines
Training , scaling walls, folding the shout etc.... that's all good but now at 30,000 feet its time to jump.
You have head the Easter story; you know about Christ and the rising from the dead.
But its just a story - gout you have a head knowledge that all
Jonathan Edwards from his sermon Divine and Supernatural Light has a great illustration to make this point using honey. He says, “your mind can know honey is sweet, people can tell you it’s sweet, you’ve read books about it, etc. but if you haven’t actually tasted it, you know with your head, but not with your heart. When you actually taste it, you experience it for yourself, you know it in a full way, and you can know it in your heart.”
Is God prompting you to Go from a superficial knowledge of Him to a personal relationship.
Now is the time!
2 Corinthians 5:10 KJV 1900
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Luke 16:19–26 KJV 1900
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Luke 16.19-26
2 cor 5.10
Acts 17:30 KJV 1900
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
2 Corinthians 6:2 KJV 1900
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Now is time to make it personal.

II Death is Required

John 12:44–45 KJV 1900
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
John 12:24–25 KJV 1900
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
John 12:44 KJV 1900
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
II Death is required
John 12.
Jesus had to die so we may live!
We have to die to self for salvation:
Good works - how arrogant
Ephesians 2:8–9 KJV 1900
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Religious - duties Nicodemus
John 3:1–7 KJV 1900
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Religious - duties
You got to die to self and your ways and trust by faith what Christ did for you .....
To be born from above is to dies to self and have a second birth.....
Galatians 2:20 KJV 1900
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Philippians 3:8 KJV 1900
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
gla 2.20
Have you died to your ways
Testimony here - in 1988 I recieved Jesus Christ as my savior .
I died to all my good works, i died to self righteousness, I died to my way to heaven it all ended there.
I can to Jesus with nothing but a remorseful heart and ask for forgiveness.
To make the resurrection personal you must die to all other ways to salvation
John 14:6 KJV 1900
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
To make The resurrection you identity will be obvious.

III Identity Will be Obvious

John 12:26 KJV 1900
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
John
The text says if you are His servant you will be with HIM.
You will identify with Christ.
A servant will follow Christ and be with him.
A personal understanding of the resurrection and accepting who Christ is will bring a change and you will be with Him and identified with him.

You are left hopeless, helpless with no way out
Romans 5:8 KJV 1900
