Scripture is Sufficient

SCRIPTURE READING 2 PETER 1:12-2:3, 2 PETER 3:1-9
Here at LHCC we believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired infallible Word of GOD, Inerrant in the original autographs.
The Bible does not contain the Word of GOD it is the Word of GOD.
Within it's pages is everything we need to know for what we are to believe and how we are to behave.
The Bible is the final authority for the true Christian in all matters of faith and practice.
Read 2 Timothy 3:10–17

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

10 pYou, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me qat Antioch, rat Iconium, and sat Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet tfrom them all uthe Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to vlive a godly life in Christ Jesus wwill be persecuted, 13 while xevil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and ybeing deceived. 14 But as for you, zcontinue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom1 you learned it 15 and how afrom childhood you have been acquainted with bthe sacred writings, cwhich are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 dAll Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that ethe man of God2 may be complete, fequipped gfor every good work.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (2 Ti 3:10–17). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
we will camp around verses 16 & 17
I don't have the time to go as in depth as I would like today because these 2 verse really should be taught in a 5 part series therefore bear with me as I try to hit the peaks of this so important passage.
The great American Reformed theologian, B.B. Warfield, who taught at Princeton Theological Seminary from 1887–1921, demonstrated that the Gk. term translated “breathed out by God” (theopneustos) refers to all of Scripture and not just portions of it. In other words, the entirety of the canon of Scripture, down to the individual words themselves, were given by God and therefore entirely true. The Bible affirms no errors and is the only infallible source of Christian doctrine.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for (the areas concerning the path of life) :
1. Teaching: shows you the path to walk on;
2. Reproof: shows you when you've gotten off the path;
3. Correction: shows you how to get back on the path;
4. Training In Righteousness: shows you how to stay on the path.
PRAY!

Teaching: shows you the path to walk on;

Teaching is much more than just standing up here expounding on a text for you to take notes on or standing down there going trough a study with you. though that is definitely part of it. we need to be willing and able to get down in the trenches with each other and refer to the scriptures and help apply GOD's WORD to our every day lives. That is real life practical teaching as we look to Scripture for the answers to our life struggles, or just studying to be in a closer fellowship with GOD. the word will shine light on areas in our lives where the The HOLY SPIRIT is going to start working on, or maybe where you have gotten off track. which is REPROOF
All through out Scripture it shows that the HOLY SPIRIT is the Teacher of all things holy!!!
You can have the best teacher in the world up here teaching on the WORD of GOD, but if you don't have the HOLY SPIRIT personally teaching you all you may get is some head knowledge but it will never penetrate your heart or feed your spirit!

Reproof: shows you when you've gotten off the path

1: to scold or correct usually gently or with kindly intent
Merriam-Webster,
Have you ever noticed when you are caught in sin the 1st thing you do is avoid scripture or anyone who will speak the truth in your life.
Hebrews 12:6–11
For hthe Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
It is for discipline that you have to endure. iGod is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, jin which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to kthe Father of spirits land live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, mthat we may share his holiness. 11 nFor the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields othe peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it
When GOD uses HIS WORD to bring conviction into you life Rejoice because it is for your own good & it proves to you that you are a child of THE ONE TRUE & LIVING GOD!
When the Word Reproofs you it is softening you up so that can receive the Correction that will follow

Correction: shows you how to get back on the path

Is there any place in Scripture where Jesus or the apostles appealed to tradition in order to refute error? None whatsoever! However, Scripture was repeatedly used. If the Scriptures are sufficient and thoroughly able to equip us for every good work, then we would not expect tradition to be consulted when correcting error. We would expect exactly what we find--the appeal to the Word of God as the standard by which truth is declared and error is exposed.
Acts 17:2-3, "And according to Paul’s custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ."
Acts 17:11, "Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so."
Rom. 4:2-3, "For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about; but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness."
It is not tradition that is appealed to in rebuking of error but God's word.

Training In Righteousness: shows you how to stay on the path

Training- instruction upbringing
The whole education & instruction of a disciple (both the cultivation of the mind & morals) ; understood as the rearing & education of children.
whatever in adults also cultivates the soul, esp. by correcting mistakes and curbing the passions; hence
instruction which aims at the increase of virtue:
meaning if there was a massive book burning here and all you were left with was a BIBLE you would have all the information you would need for SALVATION that goes without saying but also you would be able to train up other to have good morals and to be good and productive citizens. because the is in righteousness which refers to your character. so that your lifestyle is in conformity to justice, law. or morality, now listen and listen carefully because this is key! AS GIVEN BY GOD!!! not by man not according to man

adequate--equipped

In order that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
adequate--equipped for every good work. The word artios (artios) is defined as follows:
"complete, capable, proficient, able to meet all demands."
"complete, perfect of its kind, suitable, exactly fitted"
So, this word that Paul uses is telling us that the Scriptures are "complete, capable, proficient, able to meet all demands, exactly fitted" but Paul continues to tell us this, so we might understand that by studying the Scriptures, we will be adequately equipped for every good work.
The word that Paul used for "equipped" it means, "having been finished, fully equipped":
"equip, furnish."
"to be thoroughly prepared or furnished."
"to complete, finish. 1a to furnish perfectly. 1b to finish, accomplish."
We can then see that we are equipped for every good work. Every good work is explained in the previous verse as teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. This means that the Bible is sufficient for all of these things. This naturally includes the teaching of doctrine because teaching correct doctrine is a good work by which we reprove, correct, and train. Furthermore, this means that we don't need sacred tradition to teach, reprove, correct, and train in righteousness because the Scriptures are what is sufficient for this.
We also don't need to to seek out side worldly council. we should turn to the Family of GOD and the WORD of GOD for council for all areas of our life because as children of GOD we are held to a higher standard then those of the world and those of the world have no understand of the things of GOD.
The world says alcoholism is a disease, but nowhere is Scripture does it say that Chickenpox will send you to Hell or Cancer will send you to Hell. However Scripture makes it very clear several times that Drunkards won't enter into the Kingdom of Heaven!
The wold tells people that the need to love themselves more. Ephesians 5:29 says that that no one has ever hated their own body. the fact is we always are thing to highly of ourselves.
my point is that the world view is in direct contrast with Biblical view! it always was and it alway will be.
If you are struggling with something come speak with the elders allow us to seek the WORD of GOD with you before you seek counsel from a lost and dying world.
