When we think of the crucifixion, we often think of three rugged crosses.
Poems are written, pictures are painted, songs are song about three rugged crosses.
The Freeman’s sing: “Three rugged crosses on one lonely hill.
Two men were guilty; three men were killed.
Three men were buried; two men are still.
I’ve added it up; and still don’t know why an innocent man would be chosen to die.
A cross is a place, where a sinner should be; two men should be there, so why do is see three.
Three rugged crosses on one lonely hill.
When I think of Barabbas, I think about me; and all of us, who should have died on that tree.
But Jesus was born; just to be crucified; if I were to live, then He had to die.

33–38
Jesus was obedient to God’s will.
He prayed, in confident obedience to God’s will, He would provide forgiveness to all who repent.
Colossians 2:13–14
Paul says in
A king is characterized in the the Bible, by the life of a shepherd.
He engages with those under his care, he personally knows them, provides, guides, and protects from harm—even harm from themselves.
The only charge against Jesus was that He was King of God’s people.

We are all, in some way, guilty of sin against God.

The soldiers trusted greed and acquisition and accumulation over God’s provision (Ps 22:18).
We may choose the things of this world over God’s design.
Money, pleasure, peace, compromise, family, job, friends.

2. The religious leaders turned up their noses at Jesus.
We live in a time no different that the day of Jesus’ crucifixion.
God gives us clear revelation of His will, and we look for a better way— a better way is simply attempting to prove God wrong.
To we turn our nose up at God, when we say I know what God says, but this is the twenty-first century things have changed.
The religious leaders were says Jesus that might be the way it is in your kingdom, in heaven, but that’s not the way we do things down here on earth.
Jesus came, because there is only one true kingdom, one true king, and many nations and families in that kingdom.
God is eternal and His Kingdom, laws, and Justice does not change with the times.
Jesus’ Forgiveness includes ignorance of the law.
Confession and repentance says God I agree you are right, I see where I am wrong, and I ask you to forgive me and turn to follow your rules.
3. The soldiers mocked Him.
They called Jesus Silly Sissy Savior, you can’t save yourself, how can you expect me to believe you can save and rule the world.
4. The worst sin of all was that the people stood by and didn’t say anything.
We we standing so far from the cross of Calvary that we don’t speak up for Jesus?
Because Jesus was Innocent, He can Trust His Life into His Father’s Care.
44–47
Because Jesus was Innocent, Yet Died in Our Stead, We Should Trust Our life into His Care.
A King Dies for His people.
His people should respond.
Admit your sin guilt.
Believe in Jesus’ innocence, and praise, by repenting.
Stand with Jesus, but constantly check your distance.
