A PRESUPPOSITION OF SIN: Vs. 1-5
A. The disciples wanted to assign sin to the blind man, or his parents, for the reason why the man was blind.
B. It is not always about assigning sin.
It is most often about giving Glory to the Heavenly Father.
Vs 3-5
2. JESUS DOES THE WORK OF THE FATHER: Vs. 6
A. Notice the mixture Jesus uses; a little spit and a little dirt and Jesus put it in the mans eyes.
B. Jesus then really puts the blind mans’ faith to the test.
Jesus tells him to “Go Wash in the pool of Siloam”.
a.) The pool of Siloam was located somewhere in the South East corner of the lower city of Jerusalem, just inside the wall.
It was originally designed as a secret water way under ground to supply water in times of battle.
b.)
The blind man now how to walk by many people with a face full of mud pies and then go get in the pool and wash.
This is to be understood that the blind man not only washed his face, but his whole body.
c.)
The blind man, by the help of someone, returns and can now see.
However, more than his eye sight has changed.
3. MORE THAN A PHYSICAL CHANGE: Vs. 8
A. Notice what takes place after the man returns to tell of his good news.
a.) His friends, neighbors and others who knew him are looking at him but are in a debate as to whether or not it is actually him.
b.)
Some are saying yes that is him while others are saying no, but he does look familiar.
B. We do not know for certain what they were, or were not seeing.
We do know that Jesus healed this man and restored his sight!
I suggest to you that when Jesus places his hands on us, when Jesus decides to heal us of our physical afflictions, Jesus will also heal us of our spiritual needs as well.
I believe with all my heart, when the people first saw the man after returning from the pool, they were seeing a man who had been more spiritually changed than physically changed.
