Praise the Lord with your whole being.

v. 1 All that is within me is to bless Him for His perfections.

Application:

I should desire to praise the Lord with all of my being, with every breath that I have been given.

Forgiveness, Redeeming, Healing, Crowning, Satisfying

Praise the Lord that He acts towards us out of the depth and height of His love.

(corporate blessing) - v. 6-14

v. 6 God deals justly with His creation.

God commits Himself to defend the oppressed.

v. 7 God showed His character to His people in the Exodus as Moses was used to bring deliverance.

God punishes the wicked but all while maintaining His covenant loving.

6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

v. 8 In spite of our sins, God extends Himself to us in mercy.

In His grace, He gives us grace that is undeserved.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even bwhen we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Plenteous in steadfast love towards us.

v. 9 chide= accuse

v. 10 He is aware of our weakness and loves us in our weakness.

“removed our transgressions from us” The goat would symbolically be taken into the wilderness, bearing the people’s sins, to teach the reality of our sins being removed.

v. 13-14 God’s compassion is towards His children.

The NT takes over the language used in the OT for Israel

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, fa peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the gpraises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

v. 13 pitieth= to love or greet softly

God knows that we are frail creatures that will return to dust and displays His steadfast love to us as such.

v. 14 knoweth our frame= created

Application:

Jesus knows you and where you are and doesn’t treat you according to your sin.

Even knowing who you are, He still extends His steadfast love.

Praise the Lord that He alone (not your obedience) sustains you as you seek to follow His commands.

- v. 15-19

v. 15-16 Man’s time on earth is temporary.

We are born in the morning and wither in the evening.

v. 17-18 BUT God’s steadfast love and righteousness is eternally eternal to His children.

His love and righteousness have been consistently extended to every generation.

Obedience to His commands is fruit (by-product) that shows evidence of belief.

“Outward allegiance to the covenant is insufficient.

What is needed is obedience from the heart.”

The sign of belonging to God is love with action.

His power, authority, and steadfast love extend to all people.

Application:

God’s eternal, steadfast love is not dependent on my obedience.

God’s eternal, steadfast love is what sustains me as I seek to obey His commands.

Praising the Lord and doing his work are directly tied together.
