The Lord can give REST.
He can provide SALVATION and STRENGTH
Salvation: Redemption, Vindication, Enjoyment of Covenantal privileges
The Lord alone is ABLE to save and is faithful to his covenantal love.
He is a Divine Warrior, He is Strong.
Why Don’t we rest in the Lord?
Why do we rest in financial security…unlimited pleasure…or authoritative power?
Resting in the Lord requires patience, waiting, faith.
But it is WORTH IT.

B: Humanity is Unreliable
Does the sinfulness of man lead you to despair or to Christ?
This is not a low view of humanity.
A low view of humanity is to think that people are worthless and can be disposed of for any reason—abortion and living centers.
What David understands about humanity is that it is opposed to the Lord.
Because of this, humanity is chaotic, destructive, selfish, and deceitful.

“How Long?”
The question is in the form of an indignant challenge of the confidence of the ungodly.
Evil takes many forms: Here it is Words and Deeds.
They are aggressive and relentless.
Enmity between the Seed of the Woman and the Seed of the Serpent.
Understanding who we are as a humanity shouldn’t leave us in despair…it should drive us to Christ.
If it does not it is because our views of one or the other are incorrect.
C.: The Lord of My Salvation
Is your identity bound up in the Lord?

Where does hope come from?
THE LORD.
When difficulty arises or when things don’t go how you want them to go…the Lord is in his mercy revealing to you that your hope lies somewhere else.
As Christians the Bible tells us firmly who we are.
We are sons and daughters of the king.
We have an inheritance that is beyond our imaginations.
And yet we live in despair.

Faith is the antidote to despair, we must believe what the Bible says about our identity.

B’: Trust the Lord, Not People
Is your view of man too high?
Or God too low?
The Lord alone is unfailing.
We should never be surprised by people who fail us…heroes in the faith fail us constantly.

God is able to deliver his people and his deliverance is an act of love.
God is just in his rewards and in his vindication.
Jesus—I will give you rest.
Come to me.
God will reward us because we are in Christ.
We must walk in that new identity.
