Intro:
Looking at Bad Days… at Jesus Bad day… Good Friday
Joke - There was this Hell's Angel riding down the road on his motorcycle last winter. He was wearing a leather jacket that had a broken zipper. He finally stopped the bike and thought to himself, "Man, I can't drive anymore with the cold air hitting me in my chest." So he decided to put the coat on backwards to block the air from hitting him. He continued driving and came around a bend in the road, lost control and wrecked, coincidentally, right in front of Boudreaux's house. Boudreaux happened to see what happened, and called the State Police to report the accident. The Trooper on the phone asked him, "Is the guy showing any sign of life?" "Well," Boudreaux told him, "He was until I turned his head around the right way!"
Rest In Peace
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. The plaque was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it. The seven year-old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside him and said quietly, “Good morning, Alex.”
Good morning, Pastor,” replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. “Pastor McGhee, what is this?” Alex asked.
“Well, son, it’s a memorial to all the men and women who have died in the service.”
Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque. Little Alex’s voice was barely audible when he finally managed to ask, “Which one, the 9:00 or 10:30 service?”
Jesus is teaching us how to live through a bad day by us studying how he lived through his bad day.
Hebrews 12:2 The Message
2 Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.

Week 1 - FORGIVE EVERYONE WHO IS TRYING TO RUIN YOUR LIFE.

Week 2 - HELP OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING YOUR SAME STRUGGLE

Week 3 – WHEN YOU ARE GOING THROUGH A BAD DAY, BE SURE TO TAKE CARE OF THOSE NEAR YOU

Week 4: AIM YOUR HARD QUESTIONS AT GOD, NOT MAN

We learned that when God and life doesn’t make sense, we can Trust God’s character, His Promises and His Final Destination.
Real Worship is Trusting God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense.

Lesson #5:

John 19:28–29 NIV84
28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.
I am Thirsty. At this point, even the SOG needed help. He was thirsty and could not get a drink himself.

Lesson #5: BE HUMAN ENOUGH TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR NEED.

It’s not human nature to admit that we need others or any help.
Garden of Eden: Adam and Eve lived int the Garden and hung out with God, but then they sinned, the mad a big mistake.
Genesis 3:10 NLT
10 He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.”
Here is what we do, when we make mistakes or sin. We feel exposed and we can’t get close to God so we become afraid and after fear, we hide.
Here is the main reason do this is FEAR
If you are human, you struggle with fear. I still am afraid of things I was afraid of when I was a child… snakes. Fear doesn’t just go away.
We can’t get trapped in fear because when we do, we become trapped in fear.
We become a pretend version of ourselves.
Hey man how are you doing? Bless God, I’m doing good how about you?
If I was any better I’d be twins. Can’t complain because nobody would listen.
Just chillin like a villin on penicillin.
We do this because we fear being transparent. That’s kind of what it all boils down to.
On those Bad days, we need to learn to do like Jesus did and reach out.
Three fears why we are not transparent.

THREE ROAD BLOCKS TO BEING REAL.

THE FEAR OF BEING HURT.

We have all been hurt. If you interact with PEOPLE, you will be hurt. You may have someone who takes it upon themselves to hurt your feelings… maybe they feel like they have to be brutally honest.
Does anyone have a relative that their spiritual gift is hurting your feelings?
story of Aunt Mildred - someone who hurts feelings.
If you have been hurt… we say… it’s alright. It’s not. This is jut part of the enemy’s plan to keep you separated from the Lord. What we are saying is that, “Im good but don’t come too close because I am afraid you might hurt me.
Psalm 32:3–5 The Message
3 When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans. 4 The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up. 5 Then I let it all out; I said, “I’ll make a clean breast of my failures to God.” Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.
You have to get rid of that fear.

THE FEAR OF BEING REJECTED.

We all fear rejection. Credit Card, loan application, proposal,
When we feel rejected, we will do whatever it takes to find acceptance.
Social Media - When was the last time you posted your best argument on FB? We don’t post our failures and mistakes because we all wan to be liked and accepted.
Article about Social Media
80% say that their social media “likes” determine their happiness.
40% happiness will only stay of people will continue to like and follow
70% will only like a post or picture because it will make the other person feel good. IOW, we don’t really like your pictures and your posts...
25 year old… “I don’t think it’s coincidence that my mental health has become more stable in the time I have gotten a regular circle of follower who like my tweets.
We crave Acceptance.
The Bible talks about that there were a group of people who were like this…
John 12:43 NLT
43 For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.
It’s a trap of the enemy and our minds… to crave the acceptance of people.
David saw himself the way God saw him when he wrote...
Psalm 139:14 NLT
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
Knowing How Gods sees ua and focusing on that is the fix to the fear.

THE FEAR OF BEING EXPOSED.

We all have those parts of our lives that we don’t want anyone to know about. What would they think if they knew who I really am? We think they won’t like me if they knew.
The devil will tell you that they will leave you if they find out so we keep putting on the mask. It’s not true, but when we believe that we will start trying harder and harder to be accepted.
Deon Sanders
You may be here today hanging on by a thread…
Let me Free you Up - We are all messed up.
Look at the person on your right… they look good… they are all messed up.
The enemy wants you to think you are the only one who is messed up and for you to keep the mask on.
2 Corinthians 4:2 The Message
2 We refuse to wear masks and play games. We don’t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don’t twist God’s Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want to can see and judge for themselves in the presence of God.
Paul - we will not wear masks. Paul said come on and see that I am as messed up as you and I also need a Savior.
1 John 1:7 NLT
7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
How do we get there? Lets do what Jesus did. Let’s be Real
Church is a great place for this. Too often we don’t. We fight on the way to church and get to church and people ask us how we are and we smile and say, “Great, I’m chillin like a villain on Penicillin.”
Listen, this is a place you can take your mask off and be the you God is making you into. Until you do, God can’t change you. Take the Masks off. No one is going to judge you… we are all messed up and none of us can pass judgement.

FOUR DECISIONS TO BECOME MORE TRANSPARENT

1. ESTABLISH A CREW.

You have to have a group of friends around you. God never intended you to live life alone. If it’s overwhelming and you are ready to throw in the towel, you don’t have enough people around you. You need people in your live and others need you in their lives.
When you have those people who love you like this, they help provide stability. When you are going through a bad day, call your crew.
This is why the Bible calls the ...

The Church is a Building.

It provides stability.
Ephesians 2:20 NLT
20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.
We fit together.
The best way we do this is in small groups. If you have an idea for a group, let Pastor Kathy or I know. You may want to do a group of single moms, widows, etc....

2. ENACT A GROWTH PLAN.

It’s God’s will for you to grow.
God puts people around you to help you grow. You cannot grow alone.
Some of you have good folks around you and you are learning what to do. You also have crazy people around you.... don’t get upset with crazy. God might be showing you what crazy looks like … to save you from crazy.
The nest way to grow your life is to get around people who have what you want.
good marriage
great parents - your kids are killing you… find a family who is doing it well and spend time with them… find a family to a restaurant and watch them eat… if you like how they do… spend time with.
Finances -

The Church is a Body.

We are one organism.
Ephesians 4:16 NLT
16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
We each do our part...

3. ENLIST AN ARMY.

Some days you need support, but There will be days when you need protection. You will need people to protect you. People have hurt you. You need to have people who will fight for you and protect you.
Listen, You will never be better alone. You will always be better when you have people that no matter what you do, they are for you… fighting for you.
We need people who will cheer us on. Find 3 people who will be your army.
this is why the Bible calls...

The Church is a Flock.

Luke 12:32 NLT
32 “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.
The flock doesn’t get attacked, its the sheep that strays away. The banana that gets away from the bunch get’s peeled.
Dream Team - Join a Team. there is power in being part of a team doing something together. Get those people around you.
This one is the hardest things because when we make mistakes, we don’t feel good about ourselves.

4. EMBRACE BEING LOVED.

We need this. Some more than others
We all have made mistakes and we have regret. We made bad decisions. If we could go back and change something we would. Now you find yourself in the middle of a Bad Day, and you begin to think crazy thoughts. Then the enemy shows up in our minds and says they will leave if you take that mask off. … We just manage the masks and keep pretending.
This church - The Church - is a place for people who have blown it. This is a place for those of us who regret our yesterdays. This is the place for those who want to change… to grow… who want to make a difference.
ILL - of a friend who messed up and he showed him unconditional love and it broke.
I like that the Bible calls the ...

The Church is a Family.

We don’t get rid of family.
We are family and you can be real here.
Ephesians 2:19 The Living Bible
19 Now you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian.
You belong right here with the rest of us who are messed up and need Jesus just like you need him. We all need Jesus. You Belong.

I CAN BE ME WHEN I’M CONNECTED TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN ME.

And Pastor Kathy and I believe in you.
Prayer
courage to walk away from fear and take that mask off.
Know they are surrounded by people who love them.
They can conquer fear by having a support system around them
Receive your love and be loved like only you can love us.
Troubled heart and every troubled soul… that we would reach out for help.
You may be here today and you don’t feel like you deserve to be loved… Jesus fixes that. If you invite him into your heart, He will start you on the journey. If that’s you today, raise your hands...
Jesus today, I give you my life, past present and future. I give you my sins today. Thank you for paying for my sins. Today I make you my lord.
