52 Simple Sermon Outlines 6. Obedience to Christ (Mark 4:35–41)

Christ is the Great Overcomer! He overcame sin, death, hell, grave, demons, and nature

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

52 Simple Sermon Outlines 6. Obedience to Christ (Mark 4:35–41)

I. THE PANIC—Mark 4:35–38

A. A storm arises—troubles will come to the Christian

(Regardless of the storm, Christ will send a calm)

B. Waves beat against the ship

(There seemed to be no help, but Christ was near by)

C. Disciples were fearful

(No need to fear when Christ is near)

D. Fear brings worry, and worry is sin

(Fear and worry rob you of God’s blessings)

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm

II. THE PEACE—Mark 4:39

A. His power—“He arose and rebuked the wind”

(Even the wind had to obey Christ)

B. His peace—“Peace be still”

(Let Him whisper these “three magic words” to you)

C. The calm—“There was a great calm”

(When Christ speaks, things are changed)

D. Don’t be nervous, upset, and disturbed—Christ came to bring peace)

And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

III. THE PERSON—Mark 4:30–31

A. The scolding—“Why are ye so fearful and have no faith?”

(Are you like the disciples? Having Jesus so near, yet no faith?)

B. The fear—“They feared exceedingly”

(Faith and fear just don’t mix)

C. The respect—“What manner of man is this?”

(The wind and waves obeyed Him—are you obeying Him?)

52 Simple Sermon Outlines 6. Obedience to Christ (Mark 4:35–41)

All nature obeys Christ. This is something which man fails to do! Obedience is a good test of Christianity
