Jn 6:35. Tony van Drimmelen. Jesus is more important to us than food and water are to keep us alive. The question is: what are we taking in from Jesus that gives us eternal life? Short answer: We take HIm. After the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 Jesus offers an amazing insight into who He is and what He has just done. There is more than physical food on offer here. He identifies as “the bread of life” that truly satisfies (Jn 6:35). Like the other miraculous signs John chose to include in his gospel, this one will help us believe and have eternal life. It is only as we feed our souls on Jesus and with less of the ‘satisfying’ things the world has to offer that we start to live – really live, eternal life.
