A. What is a leader?
a. 1 who has influence on others (not a position)
1. u weren’t given a position o leadership, but because o ur leadership u were given a position 4 greater influence
B. This week’s leadership quality: Abilities
C. Questions:
a. Where do our abilities come from?
Exodus 31:1–3 ESV
1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship,
John 15:5 ESV
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
b. What does God expect us to do with those abilities?
Matthew 25:29 ESV
29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
1. God has given us talents and resources and expects us to USE those gifts and he will give even more to those who are faithful with them.
c. How can our gifts and talents be a danger?
Deuteronomy 8:11–14 ESV
11 “Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, 12 lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, 13 and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,
1. in our success we can forget to rely on God and forget that it’s he use works through us and gives liberally
d. Do my limited abilities limit my ability to serve God? (maybe ur thinking “i don’t belong here, I don’t have the abilities o some o the other folks around this table”)
Psalm 147:10–11 ESV
10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, 11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
1. God is not impressed by what we bring to the table, but in our faith in what God brings to the table.
i. He is the gifter & giver of grace
D. Promise:
Luke 12:48 ESV
48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.
