Vs. 17-18

17 “For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”

18 (Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

17 “For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”

18 (Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

He was numbered with us - He was chosen as an apostle by the Lord Jesus, . This does not mean that he was a true Christian, but that he was reckoned among the apostles. Long before he betrayed him, Jesus declared that he was a devil, . He knew his whole character when he chose him, . If it be asked why he chose such a man to be an apostle; why he was made the treasurer of the apostles, and was admitted to the fullest confidence; we may reply, that a most important object was gained in having such a man - a spy - among them.
How could someone who had been with Jesus daily betray Him?
Judas received the same calling and teaching as everyone else did. But he chose to reject Christ’s warning as well as his offers of mercy. Judas hardened his heart and joined in the plot with Jesus’ enemies to betray Him. He remained unrepentant to the end, and he finally committed suicide.

vs. 18

(With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out.
Matthew says that Judas hanged himself (), Acts says that he fell. The traditional explanation is that when Judas hanged himself, the rope or branch broke, Judas fell and his body burst open.
Romans 6:23 NASB95
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
