What were the last words of Jesus on the cross?
What was unexpected about the last words of Jesus on the cross?
Jesus did not say, “I love you so much that I am going to die for your sins.”
What’s happening here?
Actions speak louder than words.
One of the most gracious and loving acts you can ever offer another person is to forgive them for what they have done to you.
To not hold their misdeeds against them.
To forgive someone else is to release that person from the blood guilt of the wrong they have committed against you.
To forgive someone else is to release that person from the blood guilt of the wrong they have committed against you.
To forgive another person their wrongdoing against you is to show a deep act of gracious mercy.
To forgive another their wrongdoing against you is to show a deep act of gracious mercy.
To forgive is actually a deep and profound act of love.
The Lord’s prayer, the prayer Jesus teaches us make this very clear.
Do not delay in forgiving another person.
Do not delay in forgiving another person.
Other wise its poisoning effect will course through your veins turning your heart dark and bitter.
One of the tragic secrets of the Church is the damage we commit when we sin against each other.
One of the tragic secrets of the Church is the damage we commit when we sin against each other.
This sin exposes and even greater sin, when, in our lovelessness and with cold hearts we do not forgive others of their wrong doings.
But how do we forgive from the heart when there is often so much hurt?
Of all people this is something that should come to us so naturally.
We speak a lot about, grace, mercy, self sacrifice...
But does forgiveness come naturally?
Ephesians
.
When we hold onto the sin of another.
When we hold onto the sin of another.
When we hold onto the sin of another.
When we cannot let go.
We are standing on very dangerous ground.
As points out.
We grieve the holy spirit when we hold onto and do not hand to God the injustices committed against us.
We grieve the Holy Spirit who calls us to let go of these injustices committed against us and to hand them, without reservation, to God.
We grieve the Holy Spirit who calls us to let go of these injustices committed against us and to hand them, without reservation, to God.
Because like a toxic cancer, such unforgiveness, eats away at our hearts and our soul and turns pour hearts bitter and lifeless.
But when we pray to God for help to let go.
Wow!
When we let go, and let God take such injustice done against us, the wound is lanced and the power of sin that is in us, is opened up and cleansed out.
The barb of sin is expunged and the wound opened to God’s healing touch.
God calls us to hand it all to God.
We must ask God t
Only Half the Story
But this is only half the story.
Then does is do for the one who is forgiven their wrong doings.
What happens to the one forgiven their wrong doings?
The woman at Jesus feet, the woman at the well earlier in chapter 4 of Luke’s gospel tell us so clearly.
We are freed from the burden of our sin.
To be forgiven is to be free indeed.
We are freed our shame.
And renewal and wholeness take root in us again.
I am freed from my unholy self.
Restored forgiven we are made whole again and we burn with the desire to tell others of what God has done for us.
This is why we forgive as God has forgiven us.
