WHAT MUST I DO?
RECAP WK 2
Where does Darren get his map?
What is his source of direction?
Why would he accept a life map from this source?
Why would Darren hold onto this map for his life after the one who gave it to (Eric) basically tears up the map and throws it away as worthless?
What do you make of the symbolism of Darren tossing the heart back in the box and eventually passing it to Kyle?

The Rich Man
16 Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”
17 “Why ask me about what is good?”
Jesus replied.
“There is only One who is good.
But to answer your question—if you want to receive eternal life, keep the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” the man asked.
And Jesus replied: “ ‘You must not murder.
You must not commit adultery.
You must not steal.
You must not testify falsely.
19 Honor your father and mother.
Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
20 “I’ve obeyed all these commandments,” the young man replied.
“What else must I do?”
21 Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
Then come, follow me.”
22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
24 I’ll say it again—it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”
25 The disciples were astounded.
“Then who in the world can be saved?”
they asked.
26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible.
But with God everything is possible.”
27 Then Peter said to him, “We’ve given up everything to follow you.
What will we get?”
28 Jesus replied, “I assure you that when the world is made new and the Son of Man sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.
30 But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.
The young man went away sad.
Why sad?
He still has his money, his status, and the freedom that comes from those privileges.
See Jesus and a complete real relationship with Jesus is the only thing that can fill the big empty hole in the young rich mans heart and that goes the same for us we need to follow Jesus closely to have real fulfillment and rear joy.
Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God, and the disciples are surprise at this statement because in that era people considered the reality to be just the opposite.
The rich were believed to rich because they were blessed by God.
Plus the rich had time to study the Scriptures so as to better know God’s will.
The rich also had resources to give large amounts to the temp;e treasury and to the poor, and thereby gain greater favor with God as so they thought.
In this case of this rich man, he knew the commandments and seemingly tried to keep the law meticulously.
So in considering these advantages why is it hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God?
I believe that he had a huge void in his heart that none of his earthly treasures and pleasure could not fill and in our era it is much the same we are told by all the advertising and our society that it is all about me and what I can get and how much I can get and how much pleasure I can get.
BUT the problem with that it is all just temporal and passes and we need more of these earthly pleasure but just as Solomon found he had more pleasure than most of us will ever experienced and he considered it all dung.
So the problem wasn’t that the rich man had money; the problem was money had him.
The question is what has had each of us in the past?
or what has us now that is keeping us from all the Jesus has for us when we totally and commit to follow Him?
And Jesus said in vs 29
29 And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.
So a hundred fold may look different to us than is does to Jesus BUT whatever Jesus has for us is a hundred times better than we can think of in our finite minds
2) I want to challenge all of us to spend more time in God’s Word this week.
3) And second I want to challenge us to spend more time with Jesus and ask him to show us what is going on in our lives that keeps us from having a closer relationship with Him and keeps us from the will He has for our lives?
I want to challenge all of us
AND LET’S TAKE THIS SCRIPTURE WITH US
Freedom from Rules and New Life in Christ
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.
7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.
Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
