GOD WANTS TO TALK TO YOU
INTRODUCTION:
1.
If you have been in church or around Christians any amount of time you have most likely heard these phrases before - “The Lord spoke to me,” or “I heard the Spirit say,” or, “I have this feeling that the Lord said to me…”
Have you heard any of those before?
Well, those statements presuppose one thing: God still speaks.
NOTE: Our God is a speaking God.
In fact, He has always been a speaking God.
NOTE: Our God isn’t silent…He is a communicator…and He’s still speaking today.
But most of all, He wants to talk to you.
NOTE: If you are His child, He wants to lead & guide you…He wants to give you direction & be involved in your decision making.
God wants to give you counsel & advice.
God wants to talk to you.
He wants to show you what to do or not do.
God wants to talk to you.
In fact, I would say that God is speaking to you…but the question is - Are you listening?
NOTE: God is always speaking, but we’re not always listening & receiving what He’s saying.
We’re not always tuned into Him, & we miss out on what He’s saying to us.
2. So this morning, I want to begin a short series of messages entitled Can You Hear Me Now? where we’ll talk about hearing the voice of God & being led by the HS.
We’ll also learn how God speaks to us & how we can know if it’s really God speaking to us.
3.
But today, I want to answer 2 questions - Why is important to hear from God?…Why can’t I hear God’s voice?
1) WHY IS IMPORTANT TO HEAR FROM GOD?
1.
Some people may think it’s not that important to hear from God...But you shouldn’t have that kind of attitude.
2. In fact, I would submit to you that you need to be hearing from God on a daily basis.
Here’s why?
There are three reasons why it’s absolutely vital for you to hear directly from God.
A. It proves you’re in God’s family.
When you are tuned in to God and hear from him, it confirms your relationship with Him.
NOTE: God talks to His children…and if you’re not hearing His voice, it could be an indication that you’re not His.
says, “My sheep recognize my voice and follow me” (NLT).
Notice that He said in verse 3, His sheep hear His voice...He didn’t say His sheep CAN hear His voice or SHOULD hear His voice...He made the emphatic statement that His sheep DO hear His voice.
says, “My sheep recognize my voice and follow me” (NLT).
Notice that He said in verse 3 & 27, His sheep hear His voice...He didn’t say His sheep CAN hear His voice or SHOULD hear His voice...He made the emphatic statement that His sheep DO hear His voice.
says, “My sheep recognize my voice and follow me” (NLT).
Just as parents talk to all their children, God talks to all of his kids.
He doesn’t just single out the pastors or the missionaries, or those who have been Christians the longest.
He talks to all believers, whether they are mature or immature.
Jesus said very plainly - If you’re His, you will hear Him.
NOTE: Just as parents talk to all their children, God talks to all of His children.
He doesn’t just talk to the pastors, prophets, or the missionaries, or those who have been Christians the longest.
He talks to all of His children…from the brand new believer to the seasoned saint, God talks to all of those who are a part of His family.
Paul says those who are led by the HS are God’s children.
So what does all of this mean - Hearing God’s voice & being led by the HS proves that you’re a child of God.
Hearing God proves you’re in His family.
So, if you never hear from God it is a good indication that you’re not a part of God’s family.
Example: If the Word of God never speaks to you, you may not be a child of God.
And just as children recognize their parents’ voices, we should be able to recognize God’s voice.
Now babies don’t instantly know their parents’ voices, but as they grow, they naturally begin to recognize mom or dad’s voice and can hear it anywhere.
It’s the same with us.
As we grow spiritually, it becomes easier to hear God.
B. It protects you from mistakes.
It protects you from mistakes.
If you listen to God, you’ll make fewer mistakes because you’ll hear him warning you in advance.
says, “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, and everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” (MSG).
If you listen to God, you’ll make fewer mistakes b/c you’ll hear Him warn you in advance.
How many of you would like to make fewer mistakes in life?
says, “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, and everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” (MSG).
How many of you would like to make better decisions?
We can if we will listen for His voice.
says, “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, and everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” (MSG).
Notice the verse didn’t say “seek his will” just in church...it says, “seek his will in ALL you do.”
Notice the verse didn’t say just in church; it says, “in everything you do, and everywhere you go.”
I couldn’t count the number of times God has saved me from wasting time, wasting money and wasting energy because I listened to him.
It produces success in life.
This is not the kind of success the world talks about where you’re famous and filthy rich.
This is God’s definition of success – being exactly who God made you to be so that your life can have meaning.
NOTE: God can save you from wasting time, money, & energy if you will listen to Him.
In fact, we could avoid much of the trouble that we get ourselves into…if we would listen to His voice.
C. It produces success in life.
It produces success in life.
Now I’m talking about being rich & famous when I talk about success.
When I say that you can be successful - I mean that you can be exactly who God made you to be & you can do everything that God created you to do.
NLT).
Did you know that the best pathway for your life is different than the best pathway for someone else’s life?
And if you try to follow somebody else’s pathway you’re life will be filled with problems.

And if you try to follow somebody else’s pathway your life will be filled with problems.
God has a customized pathway for you, and if you follow it you will succeed.
NOTE: God has a customized pathway for you, and if you follow it you will succeed.
Iow’s, if you will follow God’s will for your life…you will see God’s best in your life.
NOTE: God knows what is best for you & He will guide you if you will listen.
NOTE: You have to follow God’s plan for your life, not God’s plan for someone else’s life.
The best pathway for your life is different than the best pathway for someone else’s life.
He can guide you to the right relationships, the right job, the right __________________…if you will listen.
And if you try to follow somebody else’s pathway your life will be filled with problems.

2) WHY CAN’T I HEAR GOD’S VOICE?
1.
Let me share with you several reasons why we struggle to hear God’s voice.
A. Busyness
If you’re always on the go and you can’t hear God, you are facing the barrier of busyness.
One of the main reasons we can’t hear God is b/c we don’t take time to hear God.
Our schedules are so full that we have no margin to get alone with Him & hear His voice.
Martha is busy serving but Mary is at the feet of Jesus listening…and Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen that which was better.
