In Luke’s gospel he focuses in many times on the danger of riches.
The Bible never says it is bad to be rich.
It never says we shouldn’t be rich.
It is concerned with our hearts.
the Apostle Paul warns Timothy saying the “Money is the root of all evil”.
His point was it was the problem of owning money it was the problem of money owning us.

The story of the Rich Fool begins with someone in the crowd rudely interrupting Jesus.
He and his brother had inherited money and wanted his brother to divide the inheritance with him

Jesus is not ignoring the man He is just setting boundaries.
Rabbi or teachers often settled disputes and civil matters but Jesus would not get involved in this dispute.
He didn’t come to address earthly arbitration and we are not told what the argument was about.
What Jesus is pointing to the greed that is in the man’s heart.
The man is not interested in justice he is interested in what is in it for him.
Jesus tells the parable about a man who had a very productive year.
So much so that he didn’t know how he was going to store his crops so he decides to tear down the old bard so he could build a bigger barn.
He thought he would then be able to take it easy but then God said to him that in this night he would lose his life.
The issue here is not that the man had abundant riches quite the opposite.
He was blessed and the fact that he had received a bumper crop was a blessing,
What was the issue that Jesus was confronting is that man did not care about others and those who are less fortunate he cared only about his self-indulgences.
With blessing there is always responsibilities and not to be arrogant, or selfish and live irresponsibly.
The key to this passage is about expressing gratitude to God and being generous to those who are around us.

In the rich farmer parable we are not told who received the the inheritance.
In the story of the two brother we do not find out how that story ends, who got the money or if it was divided.
This parable and story are about our hearts and where they are in relationship to God.
It is not about the material things it is about the spiritual things.
The choice we have is between living for the things on earth or the things eternal.
There is nothing wrong with being wealthy and successful.
With it are we blessing others or are we being self-indulgent.
