Introduction

This topic is part of the book “What is a healthy church member” - I did not choose nor plan this topic.

Do you think the church of Jesus Christ should discipline her members who are living in sin?

Do you think the church should discipline someone who is;
Having more than one GOD.
Make an idol for himself or his family?
Take GOD’s name in vain?
Does not come for Sunday worship?
Mistreat his/her father or mother?
So angry that he/she can Kill someone?
Married man having a girlfriend and/or mistress?
Is a thief.
Destroy another person with untruth and/or lies?
Envious and jealous of his neighbour’s stuff?
The Biblical answer is a resounding yes.
BUT why does the Bible say so?
.
Exodus 20:1 KJV 1900
And God spake all these words, saying,
Exodus 20:1 KJV 1900
And God spake all these words, saying,
Exodus 20:1–2 KJV 1900
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
The church of Jesus Christ is a community of people called out by GOD - the same way the Hebrew people were called out of Egypt into the promised land to be the people of GOD.
What GOD said to the Hebrews, GOD is also saying the church;
“I am the LORD your GOD - which brought you out of the land of Egypt - out of the life of bondage to sin.
To this people, GOD gave them the 10 commandment.
These commandments - laws guide them like school masters and judge them when they break it.
When GOD discipline the Hebrews and us, He does so according to the law give to us and written in our conscience.
There is a set of law that condemn or justifies each one of us and when one of us breaks or trespass it, this is what Jesus tells us to do. .
.
Matthew 18:15–20 KJV 1900
Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
So, yes, the church of Jesus Christ, is required by her LORD and savior to administer discipline and “Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” .

What is the church?

The church is the people.

What is discipline?

2 Timothy 3:16–17 KJV 1900
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Discipline is first and foremost Scripture - the word of GOD.
Not what I think/like or dislike.
Not what you think/like or dislike.
Its is the wishes, commandments and authority of Christ.
It is ALL of Scripture.
This Scripture is profitable (beneficial).
Discipline is beneficial for us.
It is punitive with a godly goal.
•It is law, order and purity.
It is law, order and purity.
It is formative and/or corrective.
•It is corrective and formative.
And/Or because it depends on the receipent of the discipline.
Sometimes is it just teaching.
Other times, it could be to correct a misbehavior.
Formative Discipline.
Corrective Discipline.
Discipline is required when we are not living according to GOD’s instructions.
Discipline is required when we are not living according to GOD’s instructions.

What else did GOD say about discipline?
