1. Pray for Restoration
Verses 1-3
Complete abandonment is felt by David and the people.
7 verbs are used to describe the situation in verses 1-3.
Rejection by the Lord is a serious matter even if it is only temporary.
His anger is like wine that makes us stagger.
Life is meaningless without the presence of God in your life.
Illus: Having your partner fight against you when they should be on your side.

Being abandoned is miserable and is like the state of war.
And yet David prays for restoration!

2. Believe in God’s Word about the true victory that we have in Christ.
Verse 4
Illus: Right Fear—fire
The Lord is a banner over us.
A designated point of rally and refuge under the protection of the Divine Warrior.
Those who fear the Lord will find protection in him.
The enemies are symbolized by the bow but the confidence of the godly lies in the Divine Warrior who we know to be Jesus Christ.

3. Be Bold in your prayers.
Ask God to intervene.
Illus: When we get in really dangerous times we ask God to intervene…why not in our day to day prayers?
The people pray to be saved out of their desperate situation.
David asks for divine intervention and grounds his request in the covenantal nature of who God is.

4. Know the Lord for who He is.
Verses 6-8
Illus: Don’t just know about the Lord, know the LORD.
The Lord answers and gives hope.
He reminds his people that the earth is his and no enemy can survive against him.
The Lord is king over all of the earth.
Yet he will have a king arise from Judah () and his enemies will be crushed under foot ().
It is through the Messianic rule of Christ that the nations will be subdued.
Jesus will return on a White Horse, and He too will speak and no one will be able to advance against Him.
KNOWING this, we should boldly be people who go to the Lord.
Illus: Benjamin coming to me, crying, hold out his hands, asking me to pick him up...
Daddy, be who you are.
5. Trust in the Lord.
Renew your faith.
Verses 9-11
Rhetorical questions are used to evoke a strong response.
This experience of divine rejection leads to a renewed faith and confidence in the Lord.
David does not look to earthly kings to help him, he turns to the Lord.
?Who do you turn to in times of trouble?
6. Humble yourselves and exalt the Lord.
Verse 12
David is now confident in the Lord for victory.
The Word of God was sufficient to inspire the people not to fear the enemy or be troubled by any setbacks.
The psalm begin with abandonment but ends with the Lord’s enmity against his enemies.
The Lord is just, the Lord is good.
Let us humble ourselves and exalt the Father.
