Temple Cleansing Prep Gets Personal

There is more at play here than meets the eye

When we talk about cleaning ourselves, The cleansing of our temple (our body) can be the scene of a violent eradication of that which keep us locked in on ourselves and away from the presence and indwelling of the HS.

Shaming and Hiding (Adam and Eve)

Some of us have grown up in a shamed-based home where we were taught to put down our feelings and focus on

being good.....behaviourally on the outside and in some cases the cleansing only went skin deep, while inside building a wall a shield of protection to hide because of the fear of shame and humiliation if someone really knew some of my inner desires that are not pretty.

God wants to come face to face with that and to take it to him in prayer for healing and freedom.

These beasts get their energy on these lies and prisons.

Jesus put to death in his body all of our sins (though he was blameless).

We cant pretend that we can be pure and holy before God without being reflective and honest with ourselves

We cant live in our addictions and fully encounter the HS and Jesus and God

Passover is the celebration of the freedom exodus of the Jews from slavery .

We are free and not a slave to sin but the reality is that we need are a slave to sin.

Today we are dimply declaring that we want Jesus to show up.

We are asking him to shop

Prepare now to experience communion and Easter in a new way in 2018.

Easter is 4 weeks away and Communion is 5 weeks away.

Paul calls the church in Corinth to self examination before celebrating the love feast or fellowship meal.

Gluttiony, drunkensss and eating food away while others are hungry I hope was not a problem last sunday at the fellowship meal.

But Paull really asks for a gut check of the heart, which was what worked its way out badly.

The issue of the heart goes deep and Paul says to really initiate the repair or relationships.

And....we are already in a season of preparation during Lent as we approach holy week the last supper, the lamb prepared for slaughter and hung on a cross and then Easter.

Preparation is actually an excercse that should be part of our daily routine right?

example at EMC announced “read up my room” Reading up our room Our body shoud be noting new.

Today we are simply declaring that we want Jesus to show up.

We are asking him to show up in a new way and in a deeper experience.

Lets do it Gods way.

Lets look at Gods word from the NT which records this event of Jesus cleansing the Temple ( now just in case you didnt realize it there is a bit of a knundron in the scriptural text that I am not going to try to resolve her simply because it will dsitract us.

Breifly described Matthew , Mark and Luke account of the temple cleansing are complimentary and are considered synoptic all occuring prior to Jesus last celebration of the passover before enduring the cross, while John’s account occurrs earlier in Jesus ministry and is the only account of Jesus use of a whip and drives “all from the temple court both sheep and cattle.

Some interpret that there clearly were two distinct events.

For the purposes of todays sermon, when I refer to the cleansing I’m aggregating them together right before the last supper

A couple observations Some believe this cleansing was a display of Jesus unhinged and recless and even violent.

I believe neither are true.

I think Jesus was CONTMPLATIVE/ he though about examined his motives, his heard asked God how to deal with this He sensed his prophetic voice.

Yes it interfereed with the temple operation but HE EXERCISED HIS AUTHORITY AND DUTY HE TARGETED AND REMOVED THE THREAT (SIN) AND RETUNED THE TEMPLE TO ITS PROPER PLACE .

THE very PLACE of the temple where the poor the disenfranchised, the traveler who didnt have trailers like Randy, Merv, Ray and Dan and others to haul a large animal secrifice.

they had to buy their scrfice at auction.

and to pay their temple tax in the coreect coinage.

The abuse, the House of Prayer being converted to a market was too much.

A big deal like this wee need to pay attention.

By the way I see targeted holy righteous anger from Jesus .

He drove out the animals with the cord, we dont see that in landed on them.

FOR OUR TEMPLE CLEANSING I WOUL LKE TO FOCUS ON 4 ASPECTs OF THIS EVENT AND EXPAND ON THE 4TH

1. JESUS IS THE OWNER OF THE TEMPLE and wants to be pleased He has every right and priviledge to our bodies mind and intellet .... .Paul said I am cricified with Christ and it is not longer I who live but Christ who live in me.

Jesus is the creator and owner of the house and then takes this risk by dying for us and coming back to life while we continued to reject his claim.

He has sorrow for us in this state but yet loves us and is so jealous for us.

2.JESUS HAS THE AUTHORITY AND POWER TO REMOVE ANYTHING THAT THREATENS

Furthermore Jesus commissioned the apostles with the same authority to drive out demons, heal the sick and more.

Do we believe narrowly that this gifting was relegated only to the apostles?

That teaching has emasculated and weaken the church and the opposite has to.
