We are looking at he 7 statements on the cross and in each one of these statements there is a life lesson on them.
When we look to Christ, the WOG helps us to understand what God wants us to do and how he wants us to live.
Hebrews 12:2 The Message
2 Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.
So much Hope in that verse. We are studying Jesus in his most difficult moment.

Week 1 - FORGIVE EVERYONE WHO IS TRYING TO RUIN YOUR LIFE.

Week 2 - HELP OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING YOUR SAME STRUGGLE

7 statements are linked in the Harmony of the Gospels.
John is the only one this statement is in. John is the kind of guy that kind of wrote his won highlight film. He was the one that Jesus loved… the favorite… according to John. John is the disciple to follow Jesus to the cross… none of the others were present.
Mary, his mother is with John at the cross. We can’t imagine how it must have felt to watch your son, be tortured, humiliated and murdered before your very eyes. Another thing about Mary that doesn’t get talked about a lot. Jesus is her oldest child and after Joseph died, Jesus most likely took over his business and took are of the family. So not only is Mary watching her son die in the most cruel way, she is wondering what will happen to me? In this day, Women were not usually wealthy. They were not treated well by the culture of the day at all. Jesus was her son, her provider, her protector… the head of the family…
Jesus is on the cross. It’s a terribly cruel way to die and it’s not a safe place for anyone associated with those being executed to be.
John 19:25–27 NIV84
25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
Dear woman, here is your son… Jesus was not referring to himself, but to John.

In the Middle of the Crucifixion, Jesus saw His Mother.

Jesus is assigning domestic responsibility of His dear mother to the disciple he was closest to. In the worst day of his life, Jesus just before he dies, looks after those who are close to him.
Jesus puts the focus on those near the cross. This is a life lesson… all of the 7 statements are life lessons.
review the story of cruxificition.
Out of all of his pain, he focuses on his mom… her well being and her future. This is amazing. He notices his mom and his friend and even in all of his pain, he is able to focus on his mom’s future and his friend’s future. We are always self focused when we are in pain… not Jesus.

When you are going through a Bad Day, Be sure you have taken care of those near you.

Vic - Vic’s bride of 50 years died. Together they were trusted leaders in their church and now she was gone due to a heart attack. Vic never complained at Cora’s departure even though most thought he would soon follow because of his failing health and grief. Vic told his pastor that he had a number og things to finish before he joined his wife in heaven. He was hard pressed to go to heaven which would have been best, or to stay because it was needed. After nine months, Vic’s children told his pastor they thought Vic might be finished with what he was working on, and then he died.
Vic did not allow his Bad Days of grief to interfere with his attendance to concerns regarding others who would be left behind.
That’s what Jesus did on the cross.
This is important because when we are going through trauma, we tend to wound and hurt those who are close to us. We lash out… attack. Maybe you are a young person and you have a bad day on snapchat. It’s not the same as a 30 year old who loses their job. but
Pain is pain… real is real… feelings are feelings.
Most of the time, we become self focused and don’t worry about others, but we are to be sure to take care of those near us.
ILL - car breaks down, lose phone, slump at work, wake up on wrong side of the bed, wake up in a bad mood...
stories of bad days...
We tend relate to everybody out of the wound… out of our pain.
Maybe I have a bad day at work and I don’t feel important. You leave work and you are on a rampage. You are looking for someone to cut you off in traffic… traffic is bad… everything is going bad. At that moment, we want to pass of the pain.

When we are in pain, we want to pass off the pain.

We Pout; silent treatment;
When we have a bad day, it can go toxic.
We have to take care of those near you when you are having a bad day.
Dino story of a bad day at church…
His son said God is good.... don’t let your bad day mess up my day.
What is the voice in the back saying to you? That’s why we need the Lord. We need that voice from the back. He gives us the WOG, the Hs and the Body of Christ.
2 Peter 1:3 NKJV
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
godliness means living for God.

Don’t Transmit Your Trauma to Other People.

Application

FOUR DECISIONS WE MUST MAKE

1. Identify the Real Problem.

Ephesians 6:12 NLT
12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
We have an enemy who hates us and wants to destroy your lives.
We need to identify the real problem. We typically want to blame others so we make blanket statements that should never be made.
We have to put things in the right loss spectrum and not go into a me fest.
Little situation at work. He said he was at a 10
10- like losing a loved one, life threatening disease, dealing with a family member with addiction
6 - no transportation, middle of the month and you lost FS, can’t pay the rent
3-4 -computer crashed and you lost everything. Lost your job and house and you have to move...
1.5 -
Isolate the problem. You might be hurt at work, but it’s not your spouses problem.

2. Avoid the Pity Party.

We like to Invite, “I’m sorry, I feel terrible, You’re horrible, miss I can’t stand you....”
Avoid the pity party. It doesn’t mean you are not in pain. Even in our painful moments, God does not want us to wallo in it.
1 Peter 5:7 NIV84
7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
We need to give it to the Lord. Cares/ Anxiety can be dangerous. Jesus talks about this in the parable of the sower. You don’t want to coddle your cares… Coddling your cars will cause you to doubt God. Cares will tell you that there is no grace, no solution, no grace for you.
We are not designed to carry every bit of pain and burdens all by ourself. We cast off our cares onto Jesus.

3. Live a Connected Life.

We are to live a connected life to Jesus and the Body of Christ. That means to be plugged into a church… not church hopping trying to find someone that will preach things that tickle your ears. Here Jesus is on the cross… suffering and dying and he takes a moment to take care of his mother and his friend. He connects the two.
John 19:26–27 NIV84
26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
When you are connected into a group, you might be going through a bad day, but you receive support in these groups… help in these groups encouragement in these groups,
When we are going through difficult times, we love to isolate. However we need to remain connected.
One of the things we do when we go through Bad days is we become self focused and selfish. One of the ways we can break out of this is by being generous… with tithes, offerings, time…
Cornelius…
Acts 10:2 ESV
2 a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.
We live our life through generosity. We break out of selfishness by being generous. One of the ways we break out of our selfishness is to become givers. We need to be generous in every area of our lives.

4. Look to Jesus

How do we endure? We keep our eyes on Jesus...
We have all made mistakes in this area. There is hope and healing when we look to Jesus.
Story - YP - he had to take came of his dad… died 5 months later. He looked to Jesus and took care of those near him… Heavenly father that says…
When you are going through the Bad Day, Look to Jesus. Put him first. Take care of those near you. There is purpose in your pain. Look to Jesus, take care of those near you.
God says that I know you are going through bad days… some of the worst moments of your life.... My son went through a bad day so that he could help you through your bad days. The way we get through bad days is to go through them the way Jesus did. We look to him and take care of others.
Prayer -
Maybe you are here and you are going through a bad day… bad week… bad year. Look to Jesus.... pray salvation prayer. He is as close as the mention of his name.
