ANGELS: GOD’S MESSENGERS

1/15/2000 & 1/16/2000

Psalms 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

Matthew 18:10  "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Luke 15:10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Hebrews 1:7 In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire."

Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

-We have recently heard about increased angelic activity in the last days.

-Amazingly, the Bible is full of references to angels. It is quite a subject.

-I read this week that angels are mentioned 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament.

-If the Bible covers the subject that extensively then we need to take a serious look at it.

READ FROM THIS PRESENT DARKNESS.

-That is a fiction book based upon a reality.

Ephesians 6

10 ¶ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

-That talks about the fact that we are wrestling with a force that isn’t human.

2 Corinthians 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

1-SO WHO/WHAT ARE ANGELS?

-Angels are not the main characters in the Bible; they are the supporting actors.

-Angels, including satan, are never presented in the Bible as equal to God. They were, are created beings.

-Men have a tendency to go to extremes with the whole area of angels.

-EITHER IGNORE OR WORSHIP THEM.

-Those are both bad choices. The proper response is to understand what the Bible says about them and allow God to help us with them.

-In Hebrew and Greek angel means a messenger/one sent both to perform a service and deliver a message.

-The Bible talks about different types of angels.

1-CHERABIM

-These are mentioned in Scripture as the angels who abide in the presence of God.

-You see that in Ezekiel’s vision. They are the angels on the mercy seat where God’s presence is. They are in the Garden of Eden to keep men out of the garden.

Psalm 99

1 ¶ The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake.

2-SERAPHIM

-These literally are “burning ones”.

-These angels perform a priestly service to God.

3-LUCIFER

Isaiah 14

12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!

13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."

15 But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.

16 Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble,

-These are the famous “IWILL” statements of Lucifer.

-You need to remember that God created satan and he rebelled.

-Satan doesn’t have the same power as God. That’s why he schemes.

-He is described by his names:

anointed cherub that covers

devil/diabolos-slanderer

satan-opposer/enemy

tempter accuser

destroyer

-He was with God and led a rebellion. The first church split occurred in heaven.

-It is always for the same reason…….so I can have the floor.

4-MICHAEL

-Michael is a warrior angel.

-His name means “WHO IS LIKE LIKE GOD?”

-Compare that to satan who wanted to be like God.

5-GABRIEL

-His name means “mighty one of God”.

Luke 1

10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.

12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.

13 But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.

14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,

15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.

16 Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God.

17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-- to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

18 Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years."

19 The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time."

-He appears to Mary and Daniel as well.

-The Bible doesn’t tell us more about specific angels.

-It does tell us they are strong and powerful.

-They do God’s business and it is good to have them on your side.

2-SO WHAT DO THEY DO?

-When you study the Bible about angels it is really easy to say “that’s nice-so what?”

-They are very important factors in what God does to help you.

Psalm 103

20 Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.

21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.

1-angels obey God’s Word

Psalm 91

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

2-angels protect you

Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

3-angels minister/serve those who will receive salvation

-Jesus said children have angels who behold the face of God. Those we call guardian angels.

-In Luke 16 Jesus was telling a parable and He said angels carried the dead beggar into Abraham’s bosom/paradise.

-They bring judgment/provide food and water/bring encouragment.

Daniel 10

1 ¶ In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.

2  At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks.

3  I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

4  On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris,

5  I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of the finest gold around his waist.

6  His body was like chrysolite, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.

7  I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; the men with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves.

8  So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless.

9  Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.

10 ¶ A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.

11  He said, "Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you." And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.

12  Then he continued, "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.

13  But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.

14  Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come."

15  While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless.

16  Then one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, "I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I am helpless.

17  How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe."

18  Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength.

19  "Do not be afraid, O man highly esteemed," he said. "Peace! Be strong now; be strong." When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, "Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength."

20  So he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come;

21  but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.

-The point is this:

The Bible reveals how things are affected when we pray. It is almost as if we provide ammunition to the angels when we speak God’s Word and pray. Say what the Bible says. Expect mighty angels to carry out God’s Word and Will concerning you.
