Notes & Transcripts
Spoke with someone who is suffering from an eating disorder recently
Continuous stream of negative self image thoughts
Not a good person have no talent or ability
Never going to amount to anything....they are not lovable
Never do the right thing stupid
Never say the right things ugly & fat (what is left after all those negatives)
This all makes them hate themselves
They do not deserve to live
They refuse to eat and receive the life it gives (don’t deserve it)
Christian anorexia
We see ourselves as
sinners worthy of judgement not grace
failures not deserving good things or a good life
incompetent we should be punished
This is more dangerous thinking than we know.
This stops us from being able to consume the good things that God has for us
Love spirit of expectancy in our life
Forgiveness acceptance by God
Sense of being worthy feeling good about ourselves
Causes spiritual anorexia
Stops us from sitting at the banqueting table God has prepared for us
Psalm 23:5 NLT
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
What is this “feast”
This is not talking about food
Spiritual food-psychological food-soul food
What does this feast consist of?
What does your enemy (satan) want to feed you....? (listen in your head and you will find out)
That you are unworthy
That you are unlovable
That you are a failure and will not succeed
We often try to fight these feelings by human effort
Working really hard because that will make God like me
Be exceptional at our jobs because if we are a success we are good and achieved something
Instead, we should be feasting on God’s table and what he is giving us
When we are convicted of sin..............
know we can be forgiven and restored
When we are feeling weak and unable to accomplish anything.......................
He can give strength and a way
When we are afraid about our future....................
ingest his promises
When we are disliking ourselves and hating ourselves.................
that we are loved and of worth.
This will be a choice....not a feeling
This will take faith and is not automatic
John 4:50 NLT
Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.
This man had no proof that what Jesus said would happen
He chose to believe what Jesus said…and started walking towards his miracle.
51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.”
This man had been walking for over a full day before he got word that his son had been healed.
How long have you been walking in agreement with God about something?
Some people who had to take God at his word:
22,000 men to 300
He trusted God and did as told.....
“The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem.” Nehemiah 2:20
Everyone was against him
God was with him but everyone around him was not
He trusted and did not give in to the negative pressure
Everyone was laughing at him because he listened and obeyed God and built a boat
The rains came and he survived.
Had EVERYTHING taken from him..yet he trusted God as a good God and a fair God
“In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.” Job 1:22
The Apostle Paul
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. .......
For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.
Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
