16 The entire Israelite community departed from Elim and came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt. 2 The entire Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3 The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted.
Instead, you brought us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of hunger!”

Illus: The Israelites serve as such a true picture of human nature.
follow me here.
God saves us and frees us from from the the sins that hold us captive.
How many times does faith stop there.
We get baptized, and then our trust in God begins to fade as life goes back to normal.
As life turns normal, we come to a place of impossibility and realize we can’t handle it… and we run back to God… only to forget again and go back to trusting ourself.
Genuine faith must be lived faith.
Genuine faith should direct the way we live.
(CSB) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel,, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith,, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.,,
THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH

Don’t go back to the mess God freed you from.

Illus: Last week we talked about your hurts habits and hangups… whether they be alcohol, pride, food, depression, porn, gossip, lust, griping… whatever you are dealing with.
God has freed you from those sins, but they still will be tempting to you.
The sins of your past will still seem attractive to you once you have left them.
Don’t be fooled, if Jesus has saved you from your sins, why go back.
Look at the picture of the person who returns to their sins...
(CSB) 11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so also a fool repeats his foolishness.

4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you.
The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.
This way I will test them to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.
5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on other days.”
6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites: “This evening you will know that it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, 7 and in the morning you will see the Lord’s glory because he has heard your complaints about him.
For who are we that you complain about us?” 8 Moses continued, “The Lord will give you meat to eat this evening and all the bread you want in the morning, for he has heard the complaints that you are raising against him.
Who are we?
Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”
God will use our needs in order to teach us to trust.

Illus: I love to buy things in bulk.
When we lived back in Houston we were regulars at Sam’s club… so when we bought peanut butter, we bought a pallet of peanut butter.
When we bought paper towels, we bought the 152 pack of paper towels.
The interesting thing about buying in bulk though is that many of our things we would use, but there were some things we would buy in bulk that we could not use in time and it spoiled.
God doesn’t always give to his people in bulk.
Why?
If God gave us abundance, how many times would we squander it?
God often gives us what we need, when we need it to help us see where our help comes from.
God’s provision for us is a constant reminder that God is our provider.
When we hoard God often will allow what we have to spoil in order that we know that our hope is not in what we have, but instead our hope is in Him.
(CSB) 31 So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

God is faithful when we are faithless.

Illus: Let’s be honest, griping is easy.
When things aren’t going your way, it is easy to criticize others.
What griping shows is a heart that is not content.
Deep down griping shows that God is not enough for you.
If your are not satisfied in God, there is nothing that other people, your church, your pastor, your waiter, your boss or your spouse can do to satisfy you.
When you have the temptation to start to gripe, ask the question, is God enough for me.
The good news for us is that we are faithless, and unappeasable, God is still faithful to work.
God’s work is not conditional on our obedience, but instead based on his own character.
20 For every one of God’s promises is “Yes” in him.
Therefore, through him we also say “Amen” to the glory of God.

Deep down do you trust God?
The question of faith is a question of control.
Are you in control, or is God?
Illus: Are you willing to let go of control?
Watch the next time you gripe, it is because Christ is not enough.
The root of all satisfaction is that Jesus is not enough.
So we gripe and complain… today be satisfied in Christ.

Question1 : What do you worry about, what do you gripe about?
Question 2 : Why is grumbling and worry so important to God?
