In spite of it all, there is a lot to be thankful for
People who have a grateful heart are always praising God.
You often hear them say, “God is good!”
They know that God is the reason for every blessing they get.
People who have a grateful heart are always praising God.
You often hear them say, “God is good!”
They know that God is the reason for every blessing they get.
But there are those who look to God for blessings and when they get blessed, they just go on their merry way.
Their hearts are captivated by the blessings instead of the One who has blessed them
Jesus Hears
A journalist was assigned to the Jerusalem bureau of his newspaper.
He gets an apartment overlooking the Wailing Wall.
After several weeks he realizes that whenever he looks at the wall he sees an old Jewish man praying vigorously.
The journalist wondered whether there was a publishable story here.
He goes down to the wall, introduces himself and says: "You come every day to the wall.
What are you praying for?"
The old man replies: "What am I praying for?
In the morning I pray for world peace, then I pray for the brotherhood of man.
I go home, have a glass of tea, and I come back to the wall to pray for the eradication of illness and disease from the earth."
The journalist is taken by the old man's sincerity and persistence.
"You mean you have been coming to the wall to pray every day for these things?"
The old man nods.
"How long have you been coming to the wall to pray for these things?"
The old man becomes reflective and then replies: "How long?
Maybe twenty, twenty-five years."
The amazed journalist finally asks: "How does it feel to come and pray every day for over 20 years for these things?"
"How does it feel?" the old man replies.
"It feels like I'm talking to a wall."

It’s an insult to God to not thank him for what he has done for us
A Chinese proverb says that those who drink the water must remember those who dug the well.
We are much like the little boy who was given an orange by a man.
The boy’s mother asked, “What do you say to the nice man?”
The little boy thought and handed the orange back and said, “Peel it.”
I think of the baby books parents keep in which to record their children’s first words, first steps, and growth.
So, too, the Lord keeps such books recording the words, walk, and growth of His children.
The question is, how big is yours?
I suggest the Lord needs many volumes to contain the thanksgiving of some of His kids.
For others, a single pamphlet will do.
Conclusion
(1) Often we are ungrateful to our parents
As Shakespeare’s King Lear said in the day of his own tragedy:
How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is
To have a thankless child!
(2) Often we are ungrateful to one another
(3) Often we are ungrateful to God
God gave us his only Son and often we never give to him even a word of thanks.
