1 Samuel 17:28–30 KJV 1900
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

Eliab was angry with David
David cared about the things of God
Wanted to fight Goliath
Was speaking truth
Was doing good things
But Eliab accused David
He said David’s heart was wrong
Motivation was pride(ghamanDa)
Motivation was naughtiness(kharabi)
He said David was doing wrong
His question told David that he should be back with the sheep
But Eliab’s accusations(abhiyog-haru)
Were a reflection(prati-bimba) of his own heart
Eliab was speaking out of wounded pride
Eliab was not doing his work - fighting Goliath
Has this happened to you?
You are trying to help
You are trying to serve the Lord
You are trying to encourage
You are trying to obey the Lord
But the accusations come(abhiyog-haru)
Your motives are wrong!
Go do your own work!
Go away!
But let’s look at David’s answer
His reaction(prati-kriyaa)

#1 He remembered his reason

Why was he speaking?
Why was he encouraging the soldiers?
Why did he want to fight?
For the Lord!
Is there not a cause?
Ke yasko kaaran chhaina ra? vs 29
Do we not have a great God?
Is he not deserving of glory
Of service
Of honor
Of our work
Of our obedience(aagya-palan)
He is worthy!
He is the living God
He is the loving God
He sent his only son to die on the cross for us!
He is the giver of salvation
He is worthy of all possible service!
That is our reason
His worthiness!
Not our pride
Not our ambitions(mahatwaakaankshya)
Not our glory or honor
Remember your motivation!

#2 Turn away from these people

When your friends or family
Try to stop you from serving the Lord
Try to separate you from the Lord
Turn away!
Tini-dekhi arko manis-tira pharknuhos! vs. 30
When they give bad advice
When they discourage
When they give you doubt for God’s Word/will
When they tell you
Stop serving
Stop obeying
Stop living holy
Stop caring about the things of God
Turn away - Tini-dekhi arko manis-tira pharknuhos!
Search for people who will help you in these areas
This is one reason that church is important
Fellowship with God’s family/people(jaati)
You spend all week with Eliab
at work, at school, shopping, sometimes at home
Turn to God’s people!
Be encouraged!

#3 Keep on doing right

Just like before
Don’t quit!
“Ra tyahi kuraa sodhe” vs.30
Continue
Ask the same questions
Give the same encouragement
Continue to care
Continue to obey
Continue to serve
