Introduction:
Khalifa Tower of Dubai
Tallest man made structure/building in the world
828 meter high
accommodates 12,000 people
Building with most floors. (160)
with the highest elevator (of course)
elevating you in 36 km/hour.
While most attention focuses on its height, perhaps more important is what lies buried beneath the building. Without a solid foundation, the world’s tallest building would become the world’s longest pile of rubble.
Foundation
buried more than 50 meters deep
120,000 tons of concrete and steel structure
So it is with great lives.
What people see - what we marvel about – are the great heights to which some people seem to soar.
Yet, supporting any truly great life is a solid foundation.
A heralded career is built on foundational principles like dependability and hard work.
A celebrated sixtieth wedding anniversary results from deep love and selflessness.
Successful retirement depends on years of responsible money management.

Our series, IAYOS MO.

This is very much true.
Sabi nga, “FIRST THINGS FIRST”
Ezra 3:1
Ezra 3:1–7 ESV
1 When the seventh month came, and the children of Israel were in the towns, the people gathered as one man to Jerusalem. 2 Then arose Jeshua the son of Jozadak, with his fellow priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel with his kinsmen, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. 3 They set the altar in its place, for fear was on them because of the peoples of the lands, and they offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord, burnt offerings morning and evening. 4 And they kept the Feast of Booths, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number according to the rule, as each day required, 5 and after that the regular burnt offerings, the offerings at the new moon and at all the appointed feasts of the Lord, and the offerings of everyone who made a freewill offering to the Lord. 6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not yet laid. 7 So they gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Cyrus king of Persia.

What’s happening here....

Chapter by chapter is not highly chronological to its detail....
Last chapter, we see that the head of the families made freewill offerings for the house of God.
Now, in chapter 3, the project hasn’t started yet...
There are some gaps in our stories in the chapters of Ezra and Nehemiah…
Pretty normal and I will try to explain these as we move along.
What do we have here?
They came back and went back to their own cities and towns.
But one thing that unites these people is their festivals…
Where is this festival held?
in the temple in Jerusalem.
So they came to Jerusalem, but there is no temple yet...
Jeshua with his team.... Zerubabel with is team...
they built the altar in its place...
They celebrated the festivals… offered offerings...
Going back to its original setting… the purpose of all these festivals and sacrifices is WORSHIP
EVEN WITHOUT THE TEMPLE… they made sure that before they continue with their task, they are worshipping God...
They did not say...
“oh let’s postpone the festivals and sacrifices”… we don’t have the temple yet...
Minsan, parang ganon din.
Music and Worship.

True Worship is a necessary foundation where we can build our relationship with God.

And that is a good foundation where we can build our lives.

True worship is another topic that we can discuss more later but for now, let’s just have from this simple verse from David....
Psalm 8:3–4 ESV
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:1–4 ESV
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
4Ano ang tao upang iyong pahalagahan;
Pag-ibig niya'y tunay, laging tapat kailanman.”

Whats happening here

They started the building project
The workers laid the foundation...
In the middle of that.... praising and giving thanks to the Lord...
Maybe some comments went, “Hey what are we doing? Why are we stopping the construction? Let’s finish this and worship later. We might lose momentum”
But again,

Worship is the top priority in our relationship with God

Not doing ministry
Not going to church
Not giving tithes and offerings
These are just expressions of worship… They can be expressions of Worship...
but those things are empty and means nothing without worship at their core.
This is what the Old generation don’t get… that the beautiful temple and lavish celebrations are nothing without the heart of worship....
Ezra 3:12–13 ESV
But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy, so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the sound of the people’s weeping, for the people shouted with a great shout, and the sound was heard far away.

What’s happening here
The old generation did not get it.....
They cried very loud for things that don’t really matter...
they can’t see past from the previous situation…
No matter how start the accomplishment… worship is a delight....

Worship brings joy in our relationship with God

Worship brings joy in our relationship with God
Include worship in your life and see your relationship with God
grow
and become meaningful.
SONG:
When the music fades All is stripped away And I simply come Longing just to bring Something that's of worth That will bless your heart
I'll bring you more than a song For a song in itself Is not what you have required You search much deeper within Through the way things appear You're looking into my heart
Chorus I'm coming back to the heart of worship And it's all about you It's all about you, Jesus I'm sorry Lord for the things I've made it When it's all about you It's all about you, Jesus
King of endless worth No one could express How much you deserve Though I'm weak and poor All I have is yours Every single breath
