From Good Shepherd to Chef Shepherd

presents Jesus as the Great Shepherd, resurrected and ascended, who shall not only provide for our needs in this life but also shall receive us in “the house of the Lord” where we shall dwell forever.

The apostle Peter described that event in his first epistle: “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away”

Therefore, is a joyous victory shout rising out of the Psalter.

It is the affirmation and confirmation of the returning King of Kings and Lord of Lords to rule forever and ever.

Now we enjoy fellowship with ther Good Shepherd, but we eargly wait his second coming as the Chief Shepherd.

The King’s Sovereignty

The first two verses of this psalm state plainly that the Lord’s rulership of the world is established by right of creation.

In the first verse, we have a broad and unchallengeable claim concerning God’s dominion over the world.

The psalmist’s majestic statement in verse 1 portrays the concern of God for all people and his desire to become involved in their lives.

Because he is a God of love, he is in every corner of the earth, bombarding humanity with grace, with undeserved blessings, and with undeniable evidences of his presence.

When God reasoned within himself and said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (), he imparted to man an attribute which, up to that point, had been exclusively divine.

He gave man freedom of choice.

In verse 2 the psalmist describes the incomparable manner in which God made the earth.

He “founded it on the seas” (NIV) and then restrained the waters lest, in their greediness, they attempted to swallow up the land!

Jeremiah expressed it this way: “ ‘Should you not fear me?’ declares the LORD.

‘Should you not tremble in my presence?

I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.

The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it”’ ( NIV).

God has “founded” the earth, and it shall not be moved until God is finished with it.

The reason is simply that there dwells on this earth a creature into which God has breathed the breath of life.

God loves people in spite of their sinfulness and rejection, and to the last moment of his mercy, he will exert every effort short of violating their free will to secure his repentance and make of them “new creatures in Christ Jesus” (see ).

The question is asked and then answered in plain terms: the person who is qualified to “ascend into the hill of the LORD” and “stand in his holy place” is the one who has “clean hands, and a pure heart” and who has “not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully” (v.

But where can we find such a person?

Not one of us would present ourselves as a candidate for this honor!

Yet there is hope, for Jesus Christ has filled all of God’s requirements.

When we cast ourselves upon him and put our trust totally in him, we are “accepted in the beloved” ()—6)— that is, God accepts us in Christ.

“As we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” ().

As we live daily and consciously in the light of God’s holy Word and its declarations and promises, the blood of Jesus, which has already established our position as children of God, keeps on cleansing us daily from sins that would bar us from the Father’s presence and from “the hill of the LORD.”

All of this makes possible the truth included in verse 5: “He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.”

The last phrase could be interpreted, “the God who is saving him.”

For salvation is in three tenses: we have been saved from the presence of sin, and we shall be saved from the power of sin.

Because of what Jesus has done, the past is taken care of!

The future is out of our hands and is committed to God for safekeeping.

It is the present with which we wrestle and grapple!

Yet God will take our “present” also and “keep on saving us” from the presence of sin that surrounds us and bombards us on every hand.

The Saving Grace of God.

1: Past - Freedom from Penalty of sin

Present -Freedom from power of sin

Future - Freedom from Presence of sin.

Can you imagine that day?

When we are all busy and the sound rings out!

The Trumphet call home!!!

Only the Father in heaven knows the time of Jesus’s glorious second coming.

The program is God’s; the timing and the details are in his hands.

We are commissioned to assist in the preparation for this great event.

We are to point the world to Jesus, “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” ()
