While yesterday was Independence Day here in the US, today is Venezuela’s Independence Day.

The last holiday I spent here at Getsemani was an Easter Sunday celebration.
This has been quite some time ago.
We had family in town and came to visit so that my English speaking parents and my wife’s Spanish speaking sister could all worship our Lord Jesus Christ together.
El último día de fiesta que pasé aquí en Getsemaní fue una celebración de Pascua.
Esto fué hace muchos años.
Tuvimos familia visitando y llegamos a visitar para que mis padres que habla ingles y mi cuñada que habla español todos pudieran adorar a nuestro Señor Jesucristo juntos en la Pascua.
My son was about 5-years old, so we put him in his Sunday School class and we all enjoyed the service.
It was a beautiful day, with a full church bustling with activity.
Mi hijo tenía 5 años de edad, entonces lo puse en su clase de la Escuela Dominical y todos disfrutamos el servicio.

After the service, we picked up my son and he had all the expected coloring pages and handouts.

He also had a brightly colored Easter egg.
So it was my job, as his father, to carry all his papers and his backpack and of course the treasured Easter egg.

I was wearing my best suit and tie.

So the papers got folded and stuffed into one pocket and the hard boiled Easter egg got shoved into another pocket.

It wasn’t until later as I was climbing into the car that I discovered – to my surprise – that the egg was not hard boiled, but raw.

As you might guess, my first clue of this fact was the cold and sticky wet sensation of egg running down my leg and soaking through my suit.

I was pleased to see Getsemani’s Facebook cover photo updated this week with a clear statement of your position on the definition of marriage.

I know many churches big and small are struggling with communicating their position on the difficult topic.
I was in a church in Austin last Sunday that hadn’t really figured out how to state their position on same sex marriage.
So, it’s nice to see a church that doesn’t have to struggle with this.

We are absolutely bombarded by division.

After all, we've read his book and while we know things will get worse before they gets better, we know that it will indeed get better before it's all said and done.
