is interesting…and an interesting place to start reading through Paul’s letters…after studying the churches in Revelation…the commendations and warnings to the churches…and for us in a seeker sensitive Church culture…do what ever you can to get people to like and stay in a church...Paul says this:
Turn to:
Turn to:
Gal 1:2-
Start:
So Paul is astonished…that they are turning to some other Gospel…that they have heard the Gospel from Paul and are hearing other distortions of the gospel and thinking…I kinda like that one better…that one pleases me more…I think I will go with that one...
What is the big deal?
Still the gospel?
Still Jesus…must be ok to follow that gospel...
What can we say about the Gospel?
What can we say about the Gospel?
-The Gospel is grace from God that brings peace with God.
from God
-from God
So the gospel is grace from God that brings peace with God because if reconciles/returns sinners to God.
How?

-and Christ
who gave himself for our sins
-Why?
for our sins.
Sin is what?
Sin is preferring anything other than God…finding joy and truth and pleasure in things and things God made…and not in God.
Disobedience to God because we want to be our own God…so we chase other things...

So the Gospel says…Jesus came to pay the price and give us forgiveness for desiring things and a way of living that puts our trust and joy and desire in anything other than God…and finds its satisfaction in anything other than the fountain of living waters…the good and loving God who created us for Himself…Jesus came to give you forgiveness that you desperately need from God…who is faithful and just.
So the Gospel says…Jesus came to pay that price…the one you could not pay to give you forgiveness that you desperately need from God…who is faithful and just.
And lets keep going…we can not stop there...to deliver us from the present evil age.
Paul is reminding us that the Gospel saves us by justification and sanctification…we get forgiveness and freedom…pardon and power…we are covered in the blood of Christ…who also destroy the works of the devil.
You are covered in white and your chains are gone…you have been set free…to live in faith and righteousness for the one who saved you!
The Father planned it and the Son purchased it and the Spirit perfects and preserves it!
1:4 gave himself for our sins.
The saving work of Christ on the cross is in the forefront of Paul’s mind and therefore shows up here at the very beginning of the letter.
Jesus not only saves Christians from their sins but also sets them free from being slaves of this world.
Paul will later explain that in wanting to be under the law, the Galatians are effectively wanting to stay anchored in this present evil age (3:22–26; 4:1–11), which is the state of the world apart from Christ until his return.
God not only saved those that turn to Jesus from their sins but also sets them free from being slaves of to sin and this world.
How does the gospel do that?
By showing us that Jesus is our treasure…our only hope...
The Gospel by the Spirit changes our desires so we can no longer stay chained to the sinful ways and self serving life in this present evil age.
He delivers us from it,

-God is sovereign…the gospel starts and ends with the sovereign grace of God.
The God planned this purchase through Jesus of His people…before the foundation of the world…by the gospel.
Turn with me to Eph 2...

So.
Eph 1:
-The gospel…His will…for His glory?
-For His glory?
Which brings us back to
Gal 1:5
That is the gospel…Paul’s gospel is AWESOME!!!…and powerful and the only gospel with the powerto save....
Romans 1:1
Which brings us back to...
brings us back to...
So this is a big deal.
So this is a big deal.
Why?
Is this a big deal?
You can say something is the gospel..and just change it a little…distort it just a bit…and what does the bible say about your gospel in that case…
It is no longer the Gospel.
There is no other gospel!
So I could start a church called Gospel church.
And say…we only preach and teach gospel…and then distort or alter the gospel just a little...
And we will get to why many do that...
And Paul would say my church in that case should be renamed...the no gospel church.
Why because there is no other gospel.
Whoa.
Then Paul tells us why?
If you change the gospel…distort it just a little bit…who are you deserting?
Who are you walking away from if you change the gospel?
God…him who called you.
How big of a deal is this?
Paul is saying…this is an issue over which Christians can not disagree…if you change the Gospel you have walked away from God and the grace of Christ!
CSB translates this...
Turning away and turning too.
So how big a deal is this?
Picture this:
An angel comes down from heaven…gaopel different from the one paul preached...
Or at this time Peter...
Or me…I change my mind and change the gospel a bit.
Let’s leave this part out.
Accursed.
This is the Bible saying if anyone…an angel…Peter…even Paul…comes to you....changes the gospel…distorts it all all…the curse of final judgement rests upon that person...
Paul is literally saying…change the gospel…go to hell.
Why?
Because you are turning away from God…and leaving the grace of Christ.
So why would anyone ever do that?
What does Jesus say there will be many false teachers?
Why? Leave God…turn from Christ?
Are you serious?
Paul gives us some insight into why someone…anyone would change the Gospel…why would anyone do such a thing?
To please people...
Shy would someone do that?
