(NLT) — 11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him.
12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate.
The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion.
“Don’t cry!” he said.
14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped.
“Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.”
15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk!
And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.”
17 And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding countryside.
“Imagine with me the level of sorrow this widow must have expereince in the beginning of this story…”
KEY- This women’s life was completely turned upside down.
Loosing both her husband and her son she experienced great loss as well as loosing hope for the future.
POINT- The bible is not very clear about this women’s background
We don’t know how her husband died or how her son died.
We don’t know this women’s story.
All we know about this women is what we read about in her time of greatest distress…
But there was a miracle that she didn’t see coming…
POINT- It’s in your darkest hour you have a hard time seeing anything good coming.
POINT- It’s in your dark hour you can’t see your way out.
ILLUSTRATION- Being in a cave with the lights out.
KEY- Vision is one of the most comforting of our senses.
KEY- We knowing the power and the character of Jesus can read this story and almost immediately we see how it is going to end.
It was not that clear for the widow…
QUESTION- Have you ever been in a dark hour of your life unsure of how the story is going to end?
I want to remind someone tonight that your struggle is a signal that God is up to something in your life…
Your struggle was not invented by God, but realize that your struggle is subject to God.
Even in your darkest hour God is still able to see…
Even in your darkest hour God is not overwhelmed…
MAIN POINT- Even in your darkest hour God is making moves that you can not see.
(NLT) — 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
If you look in our story there were things happening simultaneously…
POINT- Realize that while you are going about your day God IS WORKING for your good.
Sometimes you can not see in your darkness the moves of God.
The women in our story could not see in her darkness what was happening around her.

She didn’t see the APPROACH
This women did not see Jesus coming.
KEY- I can not say for certain if she had ever heard of Jesus or not, but either way she had no idea that she was on a direct head on collision with the power that commands death to knock it off.
(NLT) — 11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him.

Think about this…
They are leaving town in a funeral procession to barry a dead son…
This women never calls for Jesus, never asks him to do anything…
As they are leaving town Jesus is coming into town…
POINT- Until Jesus made himself known she had no clue he was there.
ILLUSTRATION- Working on complexed equipment trying to troubleshoot and I didn’t realize that it wasn’t plugged in.
Sometimes we are so focused on our problem, on our addiction, on our pain… That we don’t see that the solution to it all just walked in to the room…
KEY POINT- I didn’t find God, he found me.
POINT- Until Jesus made himself known she had no clue he was there… It wasn’t until he made himself known on a cross that I was able to see the solution to my problem…
It doesn’t matter your situation right now… While you may be hurting, confused, struggling, Jesus Christ has already made his approach…

She didn’t see the Drive
This women did not see Jesus feeling…
(NLT) — 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion.
“Don’t cry!” he said.
DEFINE- The Greek phrase for “heart overflowed with compassion” actually describes having an emotion to the point of feeling something physical in the pit of your stomach.
KEY POINT- When Jesus sees someone in their distress he feels pain for that individual… Jesus cares about what you are going through.
(NLT) — 30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.
31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
KEY- In the midst of her struggle she had no idea that she was being watched by Jesus.
You can’t see Jesus feel, but know that he does…
You may not see it right now, but there is something driving your freedom, it’s the love of Jesus.
(NLT) — 14 Either way, Christ’s love controls us.
Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.

She didn’t see the Reason
This women did not see the reason to stop crying…
(NLT) — 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion.
“Don’t cry!” he said.
14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped.
“Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.”
15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk!
And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
KEY- Jesus never explained to her what he was about to do.
She was simply told to stop crying.
KEY POINT- Even in your darkest hour don’t cry he has a plan.
Conclusion…
Even in your darkest hour God is still able to see…
Even in your darkest hour God is not overwhelmed…
MAIN POINT- Even in your darkest hour God is making moves that you can not see.
POINT- In my darkest hour there is just one thing that I need to be able to see - everything else is irrelevant.
ILLUSTRATION- Man who said every morning, “The Sun Came Up So I’m Doing Great.”
(NLT) — 13 For the Lord is the one who shaped the mountains, stirs up the winds, and reveals his thoughts to mankind.
He turns the light of dawn into darkness and treads on the heights of the earth.
The Lord God of Heaven’s Armies is his name!
POINT- In my darkest hour there is just one thing that I need to be able to see and that is God’s Promise.
I don’t need to know how it works out… I don’t need to know why this is… If I can see his promise then I can see everything I need.
POINT- When the promise looks dark in the midst of your problem you light it up with praise.
