1 Do as I say not as I do (hypocrisy)
2 Trying to make ‘em something their not (personality altering rather than behavior correction)
3 Heavy handed expectations
b. What do u think o when u hear the words discipline & instruction?
1 right actions/behavior management
to nourish
teach ‘em how to b good little christians
right actions/behavior management
bring ‘em up: to nourish
discipline: train
instruction: put in mind
Deut 6:4-7
Deuteronomy 6:4–7 ESV
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Eph
Ephesians 6:4 ESV
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
instruction: put in mind
Matt 22:37
Matthew 22:37–40 ESV
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
discipline & instruction o the Lord is 2 love God & love people!
So, what if raising children in discipline & instruction is
guiding em on how to seek God where by they can meet him, love him, and then walk w/him.
how do we seek God?
2 encounter we have 2 seek him

Prayer, scripture, worship

III. THE VISION

what’s all this got 2 do w/vision?
back 2 the vision:
Where God has been leading
Brian:
Beth B:
I see GMCC as parent partners
come along side our parents & grandparents 2 train kids in seeking God
create environments where seeking God is acceptable
training ground where we can learn, grow, make mistakes in seeking God and living a life o seeking God & teaching others to do the same.
its in these environments that children will meet him, love him, & walk w/him
What I c
kids lining the stairs
older 1’s waving flags and dancing b4 the lord
young 1’s learning to be comfortable up there by banging on drums, and such
parents w/their kids seeking God as an example & instructing ‘em on why we’re up front
why not just send ‘em up stairs to learn that, & then come down here when they get older?
how many churches make up GMCC?
1
by not creating environments where all generations come together we develop divisions
we get kids church, then youth church, then once old enough, they come 2 “real” church.
the kids r our people as much as u & I
and by creating environments where our kids and adults feel comfortable together they learn to worship, pray, & learn together.
kids feel loved and accepted
parents have folks who will put their arm around ‘em so parents feel accepted even if their kids aren’t perfect
